The Corix Group has an immediate opening for the position of Instrumentation Technician on our University of Oklahoma site. This position is based out of the Norman, Oklahoma facility and ensures that the three processes offered to the client; steam distribution, electrical generation and chilled water distribution will meet the client's needs and demands for a clean and reliable source of energy 365 days a year.  This position maintains and troubleshoots issues for Support Control & Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance on Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Perform assembly and modifications on systems using hand and power tools. When problems or breakdowns occur: analyze, troubleshoot and repair all systems used in power plant operations including: steam, chilled water, pneumatics, hydraulics, RO and DI water.
  • Perform all sub-station maintenance action such as test; clean, inspect and replace back up batteries. Installs Volts meter, Amp Meter and checks all indicators for open/tripped/closed status. Ensure that all circuit breakers are updated on inspection. Checks transformer and takes oil sample for testing. Works on control panel's switchboard to turn switch on tie breakers, lock out relay, and resting trip conditions on circuit breakers.
  • Inspect and maintain steam turbine generators. Schedule and perform repairs on the steam line such as: replacing an expansions joint, steam regulator, steam valve or steam trap.
  • Maintain cooling tower operations including repairing/installing fan motors, gear boxes, valves, filters, screens and sump pumps.
  • Monitor chiller conditions by taking readings and checking oil level and linkages.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical panels, pumps, valves and piping systems.
  • Operate additional equipment including air compressors, air dryers, air tanks, regulators, filters and blow down valves.
  • Read gas, electric and water meters on a monthly basis and records data.
  • Contact suppliers and vendor to research availability of existing and obsolete parts for controls, electric systems, pumps, motors, etc. Orders supplies and machine parts and chemicals as needed.
  • Attend training courses as required.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2 or more of job related training that includes electrical instrumentation repair and mechanical repair of large equipment such as boilers, diesel engineers, generators or chillers.
  • Refrigeration handler's license preferred.
  • Journeyman Mechanical license preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, control panels and switches.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot a system using AC/DC circuits.
  • Ability to read schematic diagrams; ability to locate components on equipment by referring to schematic
  • Ability to use a multi-meter to check volts and test devices.  
  • Refrigeration Handlers license required.
  • Ability to read, write; and follow and complete written instructions.

Work Context/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Works in a power plant environment and with large machinery will be exposed to hazardous conditions associated with environment. Exposed to steam, electricity/high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat, wet, humid and noisy environment. Must wear hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, and leather gloves and any other appropriate safety equipment when required; must be OSHA compliant.

This job requires standing and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to grasp, reach, twist, bend, and kneel.

Job requires driving own and/or company vehicle from location to location on University of Oklahoma Campus.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. May travel on an occasional basis.
