Description
To execute our customer retention strategy by building personal relationships with our medium to large gross margin customers as a comprehensive, single-point contact. Responsibilities include explaining the various electric and gas products available and helping customers to choose which of those would best meet their needs and acting as a lead to customer account I managers. This position will be responsible for keeping track of the customer concept and developing internal solutions (MidAmerican Energy Company proposals) to help the customer achieve their energy management goals and objectives. The position contributes directly to the corporate goal of achieving a high level of customer satisfaction. The senior customer account manager provides comprehensive, single-point contact to meet the energy requirements of customers. This position is also responsible for implementing innovative electric and gas products and services.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

  • Provide single-point of contact for our medium to large gross margin customers currently under contract with MidAmerican Energy Company.
  • Directly participate in negotiation and execution of long-term contracts with our medium to large gross margin customers currently under contract with MidAmerican Energy Company.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relations required to retain customers in a competitive environment. Build a "consultative" relationship with assigned accounts to influence customer actions and buying habits.
  • Educate customers on the benefit of the MidAmerican Energy Company product offering; gather customer data necessary to generate a cost proposal and present benefits of the proposal to the customer.
  • Provide market intelligence feedback, both good and bad, to maximize customer satisfaction and to ensure that strategies and policies are in place to attract and retain customers.
  • Provide backup for Customer Account Manager II and EC. Assist customer account manager II on business development efforts.
  • Additional responsibilities of customer account manager II and senior customer account manager
  • Implement innovative electric and gas products and services. Maximize value to customers and enhance load retention by providing creative solutions to meet customer needs and wants.
  • Train and/or advise entry level personnel. Interpret company policy and practices for entry level personnel as needed.
  • Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
  • Provide manager with recommendations to changes in procedures as needed.
  • Develop and present business reviews to key businesses on contract with MEC.
  • Identify strategic sales and load growth opportunities. Provide market intelligence feedback to ensure that strategies and policies are in place to attract and retain customers.
  • Cross-sell products not currently under contract if these products are available in the customer's territory. Present seminars and training sessions for customer, trade allies and employees.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Requirements
  • Customer account manager I requires associate's degree in business, marketing or related field; or equivalent related work experience (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.) Customer account manager II and senior customer account manager requires bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering or a related field; or equivalent related work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree).
  • Customer account manager I require one year of related professional experience or two years of paraprofessional experience in a competitive service related environment. Customer account manager II requires three years of professional related experience in an in-person, competitive service related environment. Senior customer account manager requires four years of professional person-to-person marketing sales experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed with experience in interacting with external customers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Senior customer account manager needs to have basic leadership skills to provide instruction, orientation, training and guidance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably. Influencing skills to persuade, sell, direct, lead opinion and negotiate.
  • Creativity/innovation to apply new and evolving ideas, methods, designs and technologies.
  • Operating knowledge of computer software packages to create and/or maintain spreadsheets and databases.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Successful candidates must be self-motivated and high achievers in a minimal or unsupervised environment and be willing to participate in an incentive compensation program.
  • Travel expected: minimal for customer account manager I to approximately 25% for senior customer account manager.
