Duties and Responsibilities
Product Support
Product Support
- Regularly visit the manufacturing cells/suppliers that the Development Groups deal with to maintain open lines of communication with the cell/suppliers and provide troubleshooting analysis as required.
- Evaluate and process requests for engineering changes from the cells.
- Track warranty activity and initiate corrective action.
- Identify and implement cost reductions.
Project Management
- Lead simple to mid-level design projects under the supervision of senior engineering.
- Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with Manufacturing and other cross-functional staff members.
- Track project schedule to ensure adherence to timeliness; keep Chief Engineer informed on project and product support issues.
- Occasionally make formal presentations regarding project status.
- Participate as a key member of a team working on projects of a large scope.
Manufacturing
- Develop and maintain familiarity and understanding of the various cell operations
- Make component material or process recommendations.
- Under close guidance, explore the use of new materials.
Suppliers
- Interact with suppliers to develop part/product specifications that meet performance requirements while falling within process capabilities.
Materials
- Evaluate product design relative to the selection, cost and resolution of problems associated with materials, heat treatment and finishes and finished and make recommendations to Engineering.
Design Analysis
- Perform a wide variety of calculations and software aided analysis in the following areas:
- Mechanical stress analysis, material and heat treatment selection based on application stresses, tolerance and fit analysis, lubricant properties, spur and helical gear design, statics and dynamics, noise and vibration and a variety of machine element design.
Testing
- Independently write test requests to the METCo Test Laboratory based on established standard test procedures and prior examples.
- Occasionally design new experiments and test systems.
- Occasionally perform or assist with testing.
- Occasionally use design of experiments (DOX) analytical techniques.
- Exhibit vision and foresight to test the extremes of a design.
- Draw concise logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis.
Requirements
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 1 year of experience in an electronics design field.
- Computer skills needed include Microsoft Office Tools and Pro-E.
- Excellent problem solving skills and a hands-on attitude.
- High interest in tools of the trade.
- Experience with motor control applications and control algorithms is a plus.
- Experience using statistical design or design of experiments methods to determine root cause is a plus.
