Description
The challenge? Provide geospatial technology support for our diverse portfolio of projects in the environmental consulting and infrastructure engineering sector. This GIS career provides you with the opportunity to conducting geospatial visualization and analysis by working with a broad spectrum of planners, scientists and engineers.

An exciting function of this this position, you will apply geospatial data management and analysis to support environmental background studies, condition assessments, remediations and risk management projects.  We need you to apply your experience and skills as part of multidiscipline project teams to produce in-depth geospatial analysis and visualization deliverables.  Teams will include planners, chemists, geoscientists, ecologists, risk assessors and engineers.   As part of the team you will apply your knowledge of geology, hydrogeology and/or environmental science to produce technically accurate digital representations of our biophysical world.

In this position you will also track technology evolutions and stay on the forefront of business trends and industry issues and challenges.  You will use project opportunities to evolve practices and approaches to provide innovative and cost effective GIS solutions.  You need to be a self-motivated professional, have a Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Planning with 4 to 6 years of experience preferred and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally.

Requirements

Key Skills and abilities for this GIS Design Technician Position:

  • Possess functional knowledge of geosciences
  • Performs all conventional aspects of GIS design and analysis.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of GIS concepts and spatial data and is able to apply knowledge to a wide variety of environmental projects.
  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of GIS Best Practices, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Have the ability to work in a team environment for small to medium-sized environmental projects as well as assist Senior Project Managers and technical staff with large projects.
  • Serve as a technical specialist contributing to Phase I, Phase II, Environmental Site Assessments and brownfield remediation projects.
  • Have excellent organization skills and are able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and under deadline pressure.
  • Are detail-oriented, able to follow instructions and to communicate with staff to understand assignments or seek clarification as necessary
  • Display attributes of a strong consultant (team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter that takes initiative, versatile, and has a client service mentality).
  • Working towards being a technical expert in design, development, implementation, and testing of simple to moderately complex GIS applications.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • B.S. Computer Science, Environmental Science, Earth surface science, Biology, Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Land Use Planning, or directly-related discipline with experience in environmental applications of GIS.
  • Experience with Trimble GPS and Esri (10.x) software, applications and extensions.
  • Experience creating, editing, converting, and managing GIS data
  • Strong knowledge of topology, projections, and cartographic principles
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
