Based on our customers' needs, opportunities are expected to be available starting second quarter of 2017. Positions range from temporary contract term to regular full time status at junior, intermediate and senior levels.

At this time, this solicitation is for the following position, which may be changed to meet project requirements.

Summary:

A Fuel Handling (FH) Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) designer is required to work on the design and development of I&C systems on projects involving new designs and/or enhancements (via Services type of work) to CANDU plants and other nuclear installations.

The Fuel Handling Machine in a Candu reactor is a remotely controller electro-hydraulic and electro-pneumatic system which is used to refuel the core of a CANDU reactor (at power.  The Fuel Handling Machine is a computer controlled specialized system which manipulates numerous Fuel Handling related components.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform conceptual and/or detailed design of Candu instrumentation and control systems and modifications thereof, including definition of system functional and performance requirements and control algorithms, definition of control logic and wiring arrangements, control parameters, setpoints, instrument ranges and environmental qualification and seismic qualification.
  • Perform specification, sizing, and selection for various types of I&C components, and produce component related documentation including assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses, technical specifications, etc,.
  • Familiarity in the use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for controlling electro-hydraulic and electro-pneumatic systems and above average mechanical aptitude would be an asset.
  • Update and/or prepare I&C engineering design documents including design requirements, design description, elementary diagrams, functional specifications, etc., together with the supporting analysis/assessment documents and other design basis documents.
  • Provide input to the drawing office for the preparation of various I&C related engineering drawings such as general arrangement drawings, instrument loop diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams, bills of materials, etc.
  • Provide or update wiring and technical design input to computerized wiring programs. Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other areas of the company.
  • Assist in providing responses to technical enquiries from design review teams and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in providing technical support to engineering groups at site.
  • Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively.
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals.
Requirements

Qualifications (includes, but not limited to):

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience commensurate with the grade level, with a minimum of 2 years of pertinent engineering experience.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities, and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

INTERMEDIATE - SENIOR: would include Basic qualifications plus the following

  • Experience commensurate with the grade level, with a minimum of 5 years of pertinent engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and control system functions, configurations and equipment as used for CANDU plant process systems, safety systems, or safety-related systems, or for similar systems in other industries.
  • Site experience in the design construction, or commissioning of plant instrumentation and control systems for nuclear or fossil-fuel generating systems would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with Candu QA programs and procedures along with pertinent CSA, IEEE, or related I&C engineering codes and standards would be an asset.
  • Willingness to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
