Brief Description
The successful candidate will work with the Tax Manager to maintain compliance with all tax authorities and governmental entities. Will be responsible for preparation and filing of all property tax, sales and use tax, franchise fee, insurance tax, weight distance tax, and any other tax or compliance related filings under the direction of the Tax Manager. Will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the systems that provide essential data for various filings. The Staff Tax Accountant will assist the Tax Manager in preparation and analysis required for income tax reporting, tax return preparation, and tax authority inquiries, etc This role includes accessing reports from Oracle and Vertex and inputting that data into tax calculation excel and word files and ultimately the applicable tax forms.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly and annual property, sales and use, franchise fee, insurance, weight distance and any other tax forms and reports required.
- Respond to federal and state audit requests. Perform tax research and special projects as assigned.
- Recommend and help implement changes to department processes to standardize procedures and increase tax efficiencies.
- Establish relationships with key internal and external groups, including finance, accounting and operational personnel.
Work Environment: Office environment.
Key Interfaces: Management, all employees, tax consultants, state and local officials and regulators, and other external stakeholders.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Knowledge: Knowledge of federal income tax accounting, tax compliance and/or tax research.
Experience: 4-6 years of experience in tax compliance and/or tax accounting. Utility industry experience is desirable.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience in Oracle, Vertex and/or tax return software, a plus. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, accurately and timely.
Travel Requirements: 5-10%.
Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting and standing in office/desk; frequent reaching, handling paperwork/files, and operating computer and other office equipment; frequent speaking, listening, seeing; occasionally lifting up to 15 pounds.
