This team will also support the Relay C&M team during construction activities by providing technical support, attending scoping and project meetings, reviewing commissioning test plans, data and prints, helping with material issues, assisting with setting issues, and performing contractor skills assessments. This team will also support our relay testing across all regions by having dedicated resources that develop Relay Testing Software (RTS) routines for devices used in the regions that are consistent, thorough, repeatable, and economical.
This position is responsible for reinforcing the expected results of the Transmission C&M organization such that it is focused on: Compliance with local, state and federal regulations and all applicable corporate programs; NERC requirements; Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S); Sarbanes-Oxley; Project Management key performance indicators; etc. Position is responsible for fostering a culture that values self-reporting of compliance violations/ errors/ Human Performance events, continuous improvement, and consistency between each area of responsibility. Position is responsible for providing effective performance management, training, and employee development for direct reports.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the Transmission Relay C&M Support Team to provide support functions to the local region. Provide coaching, feedback, and developmental planning for direct reports.
- Provide strategic and tactical guidance in providing support to the Relay C&M teams.
- Ensure Relay C&M teams are properly trained by a combination of formal Duke training, outside training, and OJT.
- Work with other regions to promote and provide consistency in Relay C&M processes.
Working Conditions
- Mixture of both office and field environments
- Travel across the region will be required
- Overnight travel will be infrequent
- Team is expected to provide 24/7 support as needed
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university. Area of specialization: Engineering, Business Management, or directly related studies. AND a Minimum of 3 years of experience in leadership roles that relate to leadership of a support organization in a related field. OR a Minimum of 7 years of experience in leadership roles that relate to leadership of a support organization in a related field in lieu of a degree.
- Valid Driver's License
- Working knowledge of Transmission Relay C&M practices including safety, compliance, construction, maintenance, and trouble response.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior knowledge or experience in a Transmission Construction and/or Maintenance organization
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements applicable to the position (NERC, SERC, etc.)
- Working knowledge of workforce resourcing and contract administration
- Strong conflict management and negotiation skills
- Prior experience supervising or managing employees both represented and non-represented (applies in regions with represented employees)
- Broad knowledge of company processes and procedures related to Relay C&M
- Effective problem solving and analytical skills
- Working knowledge of software applications such as Microsoft Office products and familiarity with retrieving all applicable corporate information
