Description

Classification Responsibilities:

A Substation Journeyman performs highly skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electric substations, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment associated with high voltage electric substations.

Distinguishing Features:

The hazardous conditions of working in close proximity to energized equipment (high voltages of 12,470 and 500,000 volts) in substations are extremely critical factors of this job. Work is strenuous and requires bending, stooping, and heavy lifting. A Substation Journeyman works under the general supervision of the Electric Substation Supervisor and/or Electric Substation Foreman and is expected to use independent judgment in the performance of their duties. Incumbents are subject to out of town assignments, and must be willing to work overtime as required. This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required

Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship  program and possession of a valid card or certificate of Substation Journeyman or Journeyman Lineman status, which will be verified prior to qualifying applicants. Considerable experience performing journeyman-level high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid CDL/ Class A Arizona Driver's License by the position close date. Must live within reasonable distance from assigned Headquarters.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications

Experienced in writing and executing switching orders, and basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. The ideal candidate filling this vacancy must be self-motivated, communicate and work well with others, and possess a positive attitude with the highest commitment to work safety.

  • Copy of your manual transmission Class A CDL license (front and back and IN COLOR)

*Registered Apprenticeship Program Criteria: Program must have a documented process for hours worked in the field in the work processes associated with the craft e.g. distribution, transmission, maintenance, etc.  Registered apprenticeship programs for the trades in question require 7,000 - 10,000 hours (3 -5 years).  Program must have documented proof of completion of related education classroom courses.  Registered apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 144 hours per year of related education courses during the course of the apprenticeship program

** Journeyman level experience must be documented in writing if you are unable to provide us a certificate of completion of Registered Apprenticeship.  This will require a letter on company letterhead documenting your title, details of your roles and responsibilities, and length of time in that position.  It must be signed by an operations or HR manager.  This information will be subject to verification.
