Requirements

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the successful development and implementation of Shell Chemicals business plans by acquiring, managing, and operating safe, timely, and competitive international chemical marine transportation. This position provides chemical marine chartering/procurement, scheduling, and operational support for the Product Lines. This position works closely on a daily basis with the Supply organization, the Chemicals Product Lines and 3rd Party Carriers to integrate and optimize plans and schedules. It includes contract optimization efforts, contract strategy initiatives, procurement enhancement initiatives, and measurement concept initiatives.

The Senior Export Charterer is responsible for:

1. Export Chartering & Operations for the Americas

  • In depth understanding of businesses' requirements, constraints and models in order to secure and negotiate contracts (short and long term) in line with business objectives/activities;
  • Keen understanding of Shell charter party terms
  • Understand shipping market dynamics, and able to make it relevant for internal stakeholders to make their forward plans
  • Drafting of strategy/tactic to approach market for Shell Chemical Americas requirements
  • Ability to put together 1-2 year forward pipeline of owners for Shell Chemicals
  • Independently manage COA contract activity to ensure safe, smooth, error free operations.
  • Be cognizant of risk exposure, title and Incoterm agreements
  • Independently define, address and resolve any upcoming issues that may obstruct a flawless supply chain process
  • Able to create improvement plans with LSPs and consequently upgrade contract performances
  • Includes managing quality and technical aspects of a charter
  • Ability to optimize Chemical and Oil cargoes to ensure maximum value capture for Shell
  • Able to map Shell internal requirements to external dynamics
  • Extract value through synergies with other business units
  • Execute and capture value through freight contract

2. HSSE

  • Understand and proactively identify the HSSE risks in our Marine operations, working with the Marine Technical Advisers and Marine team to minimize risks and ensure compliance with procedures
  • Understand roles and responsibilities in marine emergency response (MER) process
  • Understand HSSE MS RAM incident reporting/notification procedures and consequences, e.g. people, reputation risk, environmental, asset damage/loss, etc.
  • Report out and follow up on ship / shore related HSSE incidents to prevent repeat incidents from happening

3. Project Work

  • Able to lead and participate in regional project teams under the guidance of the RMM, including supply chain optimization projects
  • Provides reasoned inputs into the development of strategy for value creation in Shell Chemicals

4. Claims Management

  • Americas lead and focal point for all marine export claims including but not limited to cargo losses and contamination. This requires mastery of marine claims process.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Leads the continuous improvement effort for all export related projects.
Salary & Benefits
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in chemicals blue water shipping (chartering)
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in chemical logistics, supply chain, or a chemical business unit preferred.
  • Negotiation and/or Contract Management experience is a strongly preferred.
