Description

As part of the Business Applications Services Team, the Solution Architect brings technical understanding of the technologies and applications that support the Pipeline Operations business area. It is the responsibility of the Solution Architect to understand the long term application portfolio plans and elaborate pragmatic software application technology solutions defined within that plan.  The Solution Architect will have direct accountability for the architectural deliverables of projects, including oversight responsibilities for the quality of specific project solution components defined by other SMEs.  The role will be an active participant in the design, development, testing, release, and support of technology solutions.

Specific Accountabilities

The specific accountabilities and focus areas of this IT Architect role are:

  • Accountable for technical design, development, implementation, and support of Business Applications Services applications
  • Accountable to ensure proper design principles are maintained so that non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability, reliability and security are appropriately addressed
  • Accountable for communication within and between multi-disciplinary teams and/or business units
  • Accountable for preparation of recommendations to senior leaders in the business and in IT
  • Accountable for definition of packages of work, decomposition of packages into manageable sprints or iterations, and to lead other team members through the implementation of that work
  • Lead cross-functional development team in defining specific solution components with technical issues and decisions consistent with architecture standards and plans;
  • Lead ongoing appraisal of developments in technology and application systems and assess how these will impact our products, business and architecture strategy;
  • Responsible to lead escalated incidents and problem management tasks as they pertain to applications by ensuring incident and problem escalations from various business areas are resolved quickly and effectively;
  • Review the technology landscape to bring in new ideas, support and encourage innovation; build business cases for new technology implementations and present to senior management for approval where necessary;
  • Create architecture solution design deliverables consistent with the Enbridge Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC);
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of the tools and repositories used by Enbridge to manage the architecture documentation;
  • Maintain an understanding of and champion the Enbridge Architecture Roadmap Process and participate in this process filling the role of Subject Matter Expert and/or change champion;
  • Oversee COTS software implementations guiding internal and vendor IT professionals to ensure compliant integration with the existing Enbridge infrastructure;
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with business, be responsive and available to business concerns, issues, feedback, and questions.
Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  • University degree or diploma in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years' of directly related IT work experience.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and/or Agile software development
  • Practical experience with developing enterprise applications using  .NET technologies and full-stack development: ASP.NET, C#, Angular and Bootstrap
  • Strong SharePoint 2010 experience: design, develop, implement & maintain
  • Deep understanding of UML as a modeling language used for logical and physical project solution design documentation.

Ideal Qualifications / Experience

  • Familiarity or direct experience with the following technologies: Microsoft SSIS, Microsoft SSAS, and Microsoft SSRS/PowerBI and Business Intelligence architecture principles.
  • Understanding of Semantic Modelling and Domain Driven Design concepts
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS
  • Understanding of Business Process Modeling Notation and Business Process Execution Language notation and development;
  • Knowledge of / certification in ITIL V3;
  • Expert experience building enterprise applications using the Java Platform - Enterprise Edition;
