Description
Leidos Canada Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary of Leidos which is a multi-national high-technology research and engineering company, providing products and services to commercial and government customers in areas of renewable energy technologies, environmental systems and engineering, systems integration, information technology, telecommunications, national security, health systems and services and transportation.  Currently, a significant amount of Leidos Canada's work involves reviewing the designs and work quality of other firms, rather than generating our own designs.

As a solar project engineer (with 2 to 8 years' worth solar engineering experience) you may be responsible for and supervise a small team, in a matrix environment, performing the following tasks:

Energy engineering project support, including:

  • Energy system solution development,
  • Equipment and system sizing,
  • Project document preparation,
  • Review electrical, mechanical and civil drawings,
  • Provide first-line of contact with owners and contractors for assigned renewable energy projects,
  • Witness system commissioning and compare against documentation,
  • Analyzing measured system performance data against design expectations.

 Energy system design and development, including:

  • Energy analysis (thermal and electrical) for built-environment,
  • Electrical system (PV, power distribution, storage, thermal and microgrid) model development and simulation,
  • Data analysis and system design optimization,
  • Preparing and reviewing single line drawing and/or process flow diagram,
  • Controls and monitoring instrumentation and specifications and
  • District or community energy systems.

Innovative renewable energy technologies development, including:

  • Innovative energy technologies research (including advanced components for photovoltaic power systems, energy storage systems and smart grids),
  • Technology summaries and briefing note preparation,
  • Carry out technology and literature research on renewable energy, energy storage and smart grid technologies, and
  • Conduct research, prepare and draft sections of study reports to meet client requirements.

Requirements

Knowledge and Qualifications of Candidate:

  • Advanced Degree (desirable),
  • Strong data analysis and manipulation skills (large data),
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Strong report/procedure writing skills,
  • Database programming,
  • Detailed knowledge of photovoltaic power plant design and operation,
  • Energy storage and automation,
  • Use of common solar industry design and simulation software,
  • Knowledge of semi-conductor physics,
  • MS Office application software,
  • Utility operation and utility business processes,
  • P.Eng license or eligible for P.Eng license in Ontario
  • Project management experience (PMP® - desirable)
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver's License, and
  • Canadian citizen able to be security cleared to a minimum Level II (SECRET).
