We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Associate System Supervisor, Distribution System Control.  The successful candidate will acquire the skills necessary to supervise the operation of the Company's electric system for maximum economy and reliability consistent with Company safety rules, contractual commitments, cost optimization, continuity of service, and safety to Company personnel, the general public, and system equipment, NERC,WECC, and general industry criteria and practices.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

The Associate System Supervisor, through on the job training and assigned studies during a three and one-half year training program under the direction of System Supervisors/Control Area Trainer, is expected to progressively gain knowledge in the distribution, transmission and generation operations areas, as required to perform the following responsibilities:

DISTRIBUTION CONTROL

  • Supervises the daily operation of the 14 kv to 120 volt distribution system.
  • Prepares, or delegates the preparation of, detailed switching procedures necessary for system maintenance or addition of new facilities on the overhead and underground systems.
  • Initiates emergency procedures to re-establish customer loads in a minimum amount of time.
  • Assists in the training and oversight of distribution dispatchers/docs relative to system restoration and performance
  • Maintains, or supervises the maintenance of, all maps and records necessary to operate the energized distribution system.
  • Obtain and maintain NERC Operator certification

TRANSMISSION CONTROL

  • Supervises the daily operation of the 46 kv through 500 kv systems on a 24-hour basis.
  • Prepares detailed switching procedures, and implements same to comply with operating requirements for the maintenance of and addition to Company facilities.
  • Initiates emergency procedures to protect system components and preserve customer loads during abnormal system conditions.
  • Maintains a liaison with other utilities to assure uninterrupted interconnected operation and to stay informed of conditions that may affect this operation.
  • Obtain and maintain NERC Operator certification

GENERATION CONTROL

  • Supervises the daily operation of all TEP local and remote generation on a 24-hour basis.
  • Optimizes scheduling of generation and transmission to maximize economy and reliability.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate data to comply with requirements for recording tie line flows, energy transactions, generation, loads, etc.
  • Initiates emergency procedures to protect system components and preserve customer loads during abnormal system conditions.
  • Maintains a liaison with other utilities to carry on uninterrupted interconnected operations.
  • Obtain and maintain NERC Operator certification.
  • Controls the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power within the Company-owned electric system.
  • Makes use of all available time for study and preparation for three-month exams given during three and one half year training period.
  • Performs assignments as requested.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  Must successfully complete an aptitude test to include:  mathematical skills (algebra, geometry, simple trigonometry, word/problem solving); electrical theory (Ohm's law, basic circuit calculations, transformer theory, advanced AC circuit calculations, 1 phase and 3 phase); basic bulk electric system calculations.  NERC Operator certification.

Preferred Qualifications:  Should demonstrate a working knowledge of the Company's transmission and distribution system.
