We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Financial Accountant I or ll.  The successful candidate will perform the research, classification, analysis and evaluation of financial and other related accounting transactions in Financial Accounting.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accounting records and prepare financial statements in a very complex accounting environment:
  • Accurately prepares monthly journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.  Analyzes the effects of transactions on related financial statements.
  • Assists in preparation of multi-level consolidating financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and indirect cash flow statement), ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) guidelines, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements.
  • May participate in research and accounting treatment recommendation for new transactions. Sometimes very complex.
  • Familiarity with activity of regulatory rule-making bodies such as FASB, SEC, FERC, etc. to identify new requirements. 
  • May assist in development and documentation of new accounting procedures and modifications to existing procedures to enhance efficiency/effectiveness and maintain internal controls.
  • Internal Reporting and Analysis
  • Participates in the preparation of monthly financial statement analyses.
  • Provides customer service to other departments and management by providing financial data and analysis to assist in business decisions and analysis of operating results. Includes presentation of accounting concepts or operating results.
  • Uses Oracle Financials and Hyperion accounting and query tools, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to develop reports and supporting accounting schedules, as necessary to aid in financial statement analysis and decision making.

Special Projects

  • Assists in completion of responses
  • to regulatory data requests (i.e. FERC and ACC) and prepares rate case adjustments assigned to the Financial Accounting area.  Assists in identifying rate case adjustments and regulatory issues.
  • Performs additional assignments as requested such as due diligence work.
  • Participates in special projects requiring accounting and financial analysis skills.
  • Accountant II has primary responsibility for small to medium projects.

Minimum Qualifications

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Accountant I: Requires Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting with a minimum of 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and 2 years' experience in accounting.

Accountant II: Requires Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting with a minimum of 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and 4 years' experience in accounting.
