Summary

As a Manager of Product Development, you will drive product strategy by leading cross-functional teams to define and deliver on the next phase of dynamic products and services from conception to launch.  As part of the team, you bridge the technical and business worlds as you design services that our customers will love. You'll work with Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Finance, to name just a few. You have a bias toward action and can break down complex problems into steps that drive rapid and iterative product development.  You see the big picture while effectively managing detail, get excited by both the planning and execution aspects of business, and thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.

Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Leverage business insight to seek out and create impactful new partnerships while     handling our existing strategic relationships across the energy and technology sectors.
  • Have strong relationship-building skills and identify mutually beneficial opportunities with a wide variety of partners.
  • Manage and optimize ongoing operational aspects of strategic partnerships (e.g. establishing success metrics and enabling partners to achieve them, managing partner service level agreements and payments etc.).

Project Management

  • Lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects.  Plan requirements with internal and/or external customers, manage project schedules, identify and clearly communicate risks and goals to project stakeholders and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle.
  • Lead interactions with third party service providers and teams across the company.
  • Drive internal metrics for measuring performance, quality of processes, resourcing and ROI.
  • Idea Generation and Prioritization
    • Identify and prioritize market opportunities, build business cases, and define product vision and strategy
    • Open doors with potential partners, discuss their businesses objectives and present these opportunities to the team
    • Analyze the total addressable market and create financial models
    • Identify tools and methods to improve team effectiveness and product development process
  • Problem Definition
    • Understand and research markets, competition, and customer requirements in depth
    • Conduct customer interviews and market surveys
    • Develop product briefs that clearly articulate how the product adds value by solving a significant customer or business  problem
  • Design Solution
    • Work collaboratively with operations, engineering and 3rd parties to identify and design the minimum viable product/solution to solve the identified problem optimizing for speed to market
    • Identify interdependencies and pro-actively solve issues with the appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  • Build and Test
    • Partner with internal and external subject matter experts to develop beta projects
    • Leverage cutting edge technologies to push our thinking and challenge the status quo
    • Develop and execute legal agreements and statements of work with 3rd parties
  • Communication and Reports
    • Present business case to build alignment among stakeholders and seek approval and resource allocation from senior executives
    • Establish department metrics that enable the team to take action
    • Prepare demos and distribute various reports and updates on the status of projects to various audiences, including functional management, executive management, and the Board of Directors, etc.

Minimum qualifications

  • BA/BS in Business, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate with executives and external partners
  • Team-first outlook including building great working relationships with peers across functions and have a positive can-do attitude
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

Preferred qualifications

  • MBA
  • Experience with product management, product launches or strategy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to champion initiatives internally and externally by taking initiative and building strong, productive relationships
  • Experience in the energy sector

Overview

The Business Support Job Family is utilized throughout the Company.  Including, but not limited to accounting, auditing, budget preparation/analysis, business analysis, business negotiations, business transactions, customer service/relations, finance, cash management, materials management/supply chain, project management, records management, risk management, marketing, planning/scheduling and strategic planning.

Nature of Work

The essence of the work that is performed by the Business Support Job Family is a wide variety of business functions, at times involving very specific business disciplines.

At the lowest level in this job family, the work performed may tend to be of a routine and less complex nature where the work responsibilities can be proficiently performed after a relatively short training period.  At this level the employee is more likely to be able to move to different functional areas of the Company.

At the highest levels in this job family the work performed will tend to be of a complex nature involving knowledge of various functional/specialized disciplines where the work responsibilities can only be proficiently performed after a relatively long training / experience-related time period and often requires an advanced degree.  The work environment often includes dealing with risk and limiting exposure, ie, credit limit liaison in power market or coordinating Sarbanes Oxley testing and compliance.

Leadership, management, facilitation and interaction with senior management will be markedly increased at the mid - highest levels of this job family while the need for direction and supervision will be markedly decreased.  While problem solving and analysis will likely be required at all levels, recommendation and implementation becomes the norm at the highest levels and will often have a major bearing on the Company's business.  In addition, skills such as the ability to think on your feet, composure under fire and effective communication across all levels of the organization and with outside customers/clients become more finely honed at the higher levels. 

Essential Functions:

Business Support Advisors and Consultants support the planning, business analysis, general management, budget preparations and analysis, negotiations, transactions, customer services and auditing of a wide variety of business functions and processes of specific operating and support areas throughout the Company. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, departments and offices. Lead and/or assist with business analysis and support for the plans, reports, impacts, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collection, observations, and field investigations. Provide business analysis and support services with accuracy, on time and under budget. Use computer assisted applications software and equipment to prepare business analysis support documents.  Understand and follow Company established standard procedures for file structure and standard procedures for projects. Become familiar with business and department and Company plans and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. Assists in client contact and communication.  Utilize effective communication skills to answer inquiries from coworkers, clients, or the public.  Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings.  Provide business analysis and support services in a legal and ethical manner.  Regular attendance is expected.

Hours and Travel:

This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. This position may require the ability to travel between field locations.  This position may include nights and weekend/holiday timeframes.
