JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for results-driven leaders to join our team in the role of Section Manager - Inspection & Reactor Innovation in our Pickering location.

Reporting into the Inspection & Reactor Innovation division, the Section Manager - Inspection & Reactor Innovation is responsible for the supervision of individuals and first-line managers engaged in the delivery of technical and engineering services related to the inspection and maintenance of OPG's generating plants and facilities.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience managing engineers, technicians and/ or mechanical trades.  The ideal candidate would be someone who has the technical knowledge to ensure that all work is carried out properly and within safety and quality standards but also has the leadership skills to manage people - work schedules, performance, labour relations, etc.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Responsible for a team of professional, technical, trades and supervisory personnel.
  • Plan and execute inspection and maintenance programs to support safe operation of Generation assets
  • Create work plans, schedules and cost control procedures.
  • Identify training requirements, establish performance measures and carry out regular staff reviews.
  • Manage contract relationships with Vendor partners
  • Identify and manage opportunities to grow the business and service offerings of the division.
  • Support the development of new technologies and innovation.
  • Seek to improve work processes and develop strategies to ensure results are achieved in a timely an effective manner. 
  • Analyze technical results and adjust/implement work programs as necessary, including the identification of resources required, optimizing performance. 
  • Provide assurance that activities are implemented at minimum cost within budgetary limitations. 
  • Provide a work environment that is conducive to employee well being, diversity, and ensure a harassment-free environment.
  • Act as a mentor, meeting with each direct report on a regular basis to discuss development plans, and provide appropriate advice.
  • Establish performance measures and carry out personal effectiveness appraisals and regular reviews. 
  • Communicate the overall organization goals and the direction, which guides the operation of the work programs/function.  

EDUCATION

  • University degree in Engineering or Science preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking an experienced leader with a background in the field of maintenance and engineering with the following:

  • 8+ years of experience supervising technical, maintenance and/or engineering service technicians within operations, inspections or maintenance groups;  
  • Knowledge of physics, chemistry, metallurgy, mechanical/electrical/electronic engineering, non-destructive examination techniques, robotics and control systems;
  • Requires experience in working with highly specialized equipment, processes, tooling, techniques and methods in an industrial environment;
  • Requires the ability to become cognizant of the maintenance and operating responsibilities including relevant procedures, problems, codes, and standards, system equipment characteristics, control, maintenance and resources requirements;
  • Experience within a heavily regulated/procedural Industrial/Utility organization (Nuclear is preferred);
  • Experience supervising unionized staff including conflict resolution;
  • Exhibits strong leadership qualities and possesses well-developed analytical and superior communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Experience in directing work in a technical service environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction, including providing advice and influencing personnel to make good decisions, improve inspection equipment performance and successfully implement component/equipment upgrade programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work activities to satisfy changing requirements, while prioritizing safety and quality;
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately control costs and work performance;
  • Experience in developing and implementing technical solutions;
  • Experience in directing troubleshooting activities when equipment fails to operate;
  • Experience in adding value to the results obtained by staff through concise and accurate reports;
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders with dynamic needs;
  • Possession of a valid driver's licence.
