Ballard's Stack Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for a fuel cell Product Development Engineer in our Burnaby, BC headquarters. As a Stack Engineer, you will be working directly on fuel cell core technology, surrounded by world-class experts. The Ideal Candidate:

You have a solid understanding of mechanical design, strength of materials, fluid-flow analysis, thermodynamics and heat transfer. You thrive in diverse roles that drive projects end to end; from initial design analysis, material selection to prototyping and testing. Bonus points for shop experience, including general machine operations and high volume manufacturing methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create design requirement documentation based on customer requests and engineering design tools
  • Analyze structural, thermal, fluid flow and performance of prototype or production hardware
  • Build ex-situ and in-situ tools for conducting experiments to validate design concepts
  • Deliver component or assembly design specifications with validated results and documentation
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure orderly progression of designs to production
  • Collaborate with machine shops, fabricators and suppliers to ensure parts will meet functional requirements and aggressive timelines
  • Provide continuation engineering support on products following internal change control and design review processes

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. degree in Mechanical, Engineering Physics, Chemical, or related Engineering program with 3 - 5 years of related experience
  • Ability to interpret test data and compare against design objectives within the Stack Engineering team
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, electrical analysis and strength of materials
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as design verification planning, tolerance stack-up, structured problem solving and DFMEA
  • Comfortable with drawings and design standards, including GD&T

Assets:

  • Understanding of fuel cell design
  • Experience with MATLAB, FEA and CFD tools
  • Profession Engineering eligibility or certification
