Leads, manages, and oversees finance, accounting and business administration activities for assigned Branches in Western Canada. Acts as commercial partner to the Branch General Manager and assumes responsibility for assigned Branch financial performance. Leads evaluation of current and proposed financial plans and change recommendations to positively impact profitability. Ensures that financial and operations reports accurately reflect the condition of the Branch business and provides reliable information necessary to advise management and control the business. Ensures and enforces effective internal controls and compliance with accounting guidelines, professional standards and company policies. 

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP, Controller the Financial Controller Western Canada will:

  • Lead the planning and coordination of assigned Branches related financial activities to drive operational excellence and customer satisfaction including operating results analysis, short and long-range forecasts, and annual business plan activities. 
  • Monitor operating expense controls and makes recommendations to ensure achievement of cost-savings and continuous improvement measures.
  • Be fully responsible and accountable for the financial performance of assigned Branches.
  • Authorize sales transactions, monitor supply chain performance, customer negotiations, oversee accounting and finance requirements, leading monthly forecasts and annual budgets, analyze capital expenditures, developing business plans targets, policies guidelines, internal controls, forecast cash flows, evaluate risks and opportunities of strategic initiatives and identify financial trends, as well as recommending corrective actions
  • Drive productivity based on sales increase actions, cost reduction actions and reduction of net capital employed.
  • Analyze the financial impact of initiatives, facilitate workshops and adhoc financial presentations as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or related field
  • CPA or MBA is preferred
  • 8 years of related experience (construction industry experience would be an asset)
  • Must have the ability to analyze situations, provide recommendations to solve problems, exercise sound judgment and escalate matters when appropriate
  • Must have strong leadership skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must have working knowledge of SAP and MS Office
  • Must be willing to travel as required.
