Position Overview:

Edison is seeking an energetic Circuit Protection Engineer to join our Major Projects and Engineering (MP&E) team in the Generation organization.  MP&E is responsible for the planning and execution of large and complex Generation projects.   The successful candidate will have proven experience with electric utility circuit protection engineering practices.  Some general responsivities will include determining circuit protection relay settings, manage settings using data base systems such as ASPEN to record relay configuration files, and conduct circuit fault analysis studies.  This protection engineer will work closely with project managers, system operators and other engineers to assess the situation and make technical recommendations.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Assess and determine the proper protection devices and settings for various (e.g. hydro, gas and solar) generation assets. 
  • Conduct protection failure analysis and make technical recommendations to mitigate the situation.
  • Use various database systems to manage relay configuration files in accordance with SCE's compliance requirements.
  • Develop circuit protection test plans for field technicians.
  • Collaborate with various internal subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure Generation's circuit protection system is aligned with other organizations.
  • Support Project Managers and Generation engineering projects.
  • Will perform other electrical projects and work as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related technical field. 
  • Eight years of experience in electrical engineering or other related technical expertise.
  • Three years of circuit protection engineering experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or other related technical discipline
  • California Professional Engineering License
  • Experience with circuit protection related to generation assets in hydro, gas and solar. 
  • Experience with ASPEN and DOBLE software suites

Comments:

  • The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA; however, the successful candidate may also be asked to travel extensively to remote generation locations within the SCE territory.
