About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview:

The Interconnection Queue Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all internal activities related to SCE's receipt and processing of new requests for interconnecting generation and load projects to SCE's electrical grid. This manager supervises a small team responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the interconnection queue. The manager will supervise all activities and processes that relate to the intake of interconnection requests including hand-offs to internal and external stakeholders (such as NEM Interconnection team, the California ISO, SCE's Engineering groups, etc.). The manager is responsible for short and long-term plans to ensure regulatory compliance and timely respond to the customers.

Typical Responsibilities:

This manager will:

  • Implement all necessary intake processes to ensure compliance with SCE's interconnection tariffs (including Rule 21, SCE's Wholesale Distribution Access Tariff)
  • Provide day-to-day guidance on issues affecting interconnection requests intake and related activities
  • Coordinate with sister organizations to properly process new interconnection requests
  • Maintain proper project management of NEM, non-export and isolated projects
  • Coordinate respond to regulatory filings and data requests
  • Develop department and business line goals, budgets, operating plans
  • Measure organizational performance to meet goals and objectives
  • Determine staffing and resource needs of department
  • Developing and coaching employees
  • Support SCE's safety policies and initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in managing large scale electrical interconnection projects, or similar engineering projects.
  • Five of more years of experience with standards, tariffs, process implementation or similar regulatory work

Desired qualifications

  • Experience managing projects in the electric utility industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Master's Degree or other Post-Graduate Degree (such as MBA, JD) in Business, Law, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in managing multi-year development of generation projects in a utility environment.
  • Certificate and/or Licenses:  Professional Engineer or Project Management Certification
