Position Overview:
As an Energy Markets Specialist in Resource Optimization in the Trading and Market Operations group, you will utilize your analytical proficiency to implement bidding strategies for SCE's resource portfolio in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market, integrate new resources into the market, and work collaboratively with contract managers, generation operators, power and gas traders, real time operators, and forecasting groups to provide reliable short-term power planning for customers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Updating forecast and operational data and utilize simulation/optimization models to develop least-cost dispatch plans for SCE's generating resources and power contracts.
  • Assist in bidding strategy development, coordination, implementation, and after the fact analysis for a complex portfolio of resources including demand response, renewables, and thermal resources.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to execute process improvement opportunities across the trade floor.
  • Present market analytics reports regularly to senior management.
  • Interface on behalf of SCE with external stakeholders (e.g. CAISO, CPUC, vendors)
  • Utilize after the fact analysis to enhance the planning process, strategies, tools and overall utilization of SCE's supply portfolio.
  • Maintain current models and develop new analytical models for the daily planning process
  • Analyze market trends in the energy and ancillary services markets. 
  • Solve complex problems and perform analyses of new business situations through coordination with other Power Supply teams.
  • Maintain a safety-conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related field.
  • 6 years of experience building, analyzing, maintaining complex optimization, numerical, or dispatch models.
  • 3 years of experience with statistical, mathematical, econometric, or financial modeling.
  • 3 years of experience using advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V-look-ups, macros, etc.), Word, Access and PowerPoint.
  • 2 years of experience in the energy markets and/or the use of Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch models.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in a technical field, or an MBA.
  • Experience in operational planning, trading, and/or analysis of power generation portfolios in deregulated wholesale power markets.
  • Understanding of the CAISO or other energy market design.
  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams, including development of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience researching information, analyzing it, preparing reports and making recommendations.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience completing multiple projects concurrently while adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Experience interfacing and collaborating with clients, peers, management, and other departments.
  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations.
  • Strong ethics, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

Comments:

  • The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA.
  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
