Primary Purpose:
Performs specific accounting, reporting and financial analysis assignments including preparation of complex financial reports and related analysis with guidance from principal staff, and/or manager. Primarily responsible for month-end close process, inter company promissory notes preparation, financial statement preparation and analysis (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares, compiles, and reviews Sempra Energy and subsidiary disclosure information for external reporting requirements to the SEC and other government agencies.
- Plans, schedules and review subordinate employees' work activities providing on-the-job training, coaching and counseling.
- Works in a team environment and may provide work direction to accounting staff.
- Performs and review accounting and financial analysis.
- Make recommendations concerning accounting issues within functional areas of responsibility.
- Serves as a lead professional related to financial, reporting and accounting assignments in their areas of knowledge.
- Independently manages several concurrent projects, assignments and activities.
- Prepares internal and external financial reports, with minimal technical direction.
- Recommends accounting and financial treatment for new and existing operations, regulations and laws.
- Responds to inquiries of senior management, shareholders, external departments, government agencies, and internal and external auditors.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, finance, economics or related business administration field required.
- CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certificates/advanced degrees a plus.
Experience:
- 5+ years experience in public and /or professional accounting or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience with HFM and MAX System in large corporation preferred.
- Experience with multi-company consolidations and prior SEC reporting preferred.
- Experience in the electric and/or gas utility industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must have previous month-end close experience for large corporation.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to effectively interact in a team environment.
