Talen Energy, Brunner Island Plant is seeking a mechanical or electrical engineering student intern for summer 2021. The intern will be a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a power plant and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience.
Reporting to Brunner Island's Engineering Manager, the engineering intern will have the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals as part of existing engineering projects and emergent work, as well as independently on some tasks. The position will involve both power plant field and office work.
The intern's primary work location will be Talen's Brunner Island plant in York Haven, PA.
In this position, depending upon engineering discipline, the individual will support various projects.
The Brunner Island Engineering intern will operate in a team environment applying interpersonal, communications, and technical skills and knowledge, and demonstrating leadership qualities.
Basic qualifications must be met in order to be considered.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university program.
- Must be enrolled in a curriculum leading to a Baccalaureate or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering field of study.
- Must be enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours). Students may not continue as an intern once they have graduated.
- Must possess an acceptable overall (cumulative) grade point average, no lower than a 3.0.
- Must be eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations.
- Must be able to provide an official student transcript and other required information.
- Must be willing and able to travel to Talen offices and power plants as necessary (from 1 hour to 3.5 hours of base location).
- Must be able to successfully complete required background clearance and drug screening.
