Description
During COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met. Once allowed back to the office, the work site is in Henderson, Colorado. Eligible applicants must be able to commute to the work site in the future. 

The intern position job duties will be comprised of engineering and analytics work within the Equipment & System Analytics (ESA) team in Energy Supply. 

Equipment and System Analytics is responsible to optimize and continuously improve the operation and maintenance approaches of the equipment in Power Plants across the company. Data analytics will be used within the team to improve existing equipment maintenance strategies and drive fleet business decisions to improve reliability while minimizing the cost to produce energy.  This includes the development, implementation, and ownership of an effective condition monitoring program to enable condition-based maintenance. ESA is also responsible for providing data and analytics to identify and mitigate operational and financial risk across the generation portfolio.

The successful candidate will be a Sophomore level student that will be entering their Junior year in the fall of 2021. Graduate students will not be considered for this internship. Preference will be given to students who can commit to working part-time (8 or more hours/week) during the school year and full-time during the summer months (40 hours/week). Course work in data analytics or computer science and an interest in the power industry is desirable.

Position Summary

Under direct supervision and guidance from engineering staff, this position will include the following tasks:

  • Document existing equipment maintenance practices using the General Electric Asset Performance Management (GE-APM) software program. Note: all required GE-APM software training will be provided to the candidate to be successful
  • Optimize existing equipment maintenance practices within GE-APM by determining the best cost vs risk scenario based on how the equipment can failure and actions that can be taken to address the failure modes. 
  • Build queries and dashboards to analyze and display company data in GE-APM.
  • Map and integrate data into GE-APM for various analytics of power plant equipment
  • Build models within GE-APM to quantify equipment condition based on work history, failure history and continuous online equipment data from various data sources. 
  • Document gaps between the current condition monitoring practices and newly developed standards for vibration monitoring, motor testing, infrared thermography and oil analysis.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering program
  • Sophomore level student or above
  • Submit a cover letter and unofficial transcript
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
  • Must be self-motivated and work well with others
  • Reliable transportation to the work sites

 Preferred

  • Course work or a minor in data analytics or computer science
  • An interest in the power industry
  • The ability to work part-time (8 or more hours/week) during the school year and full-time during the summer months (40 hours/week)
