JOB OVERVIEW 

OPG is looking for a dedicated, results driven and dynamic professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager Strategic Initiatives located in Tiverton or Pickering, Ontario.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES   

In support of the Nuclear Waste and Commercial Management Division (NWMD):

  • Develop and execute Nuclear Waste Management Division's (NWMD) strategy and strategic planning requirements.
  • Manage or support a range of strategic development and planning initiatives.
  • Perform specific assessments and investigations on a range of strategic matters.
  • Oversee the divisional Project Portfolio to ensure NWMD Strategic objectives are met
  • Develop and leverage supporting internal and external networks and relationships.

Lead Strategic Planning function:

  • Drive NWMD's internal strategic planning process.
  • Monitor, assess and address key strategic developments, both internal and external, and facilitate the integration of business intelligence, information and perspectives into solutions.
  • Develop strategy, strategic objectives and priorities, and key performance indicators.
  • Support the development of shareholder and key stakeholder strategies, and the management of key external corporate relationships/interfaces.
  • Assess and advise on specific policy and/or strategic issues affecting NWMD, and address specific strategic queries by senior management.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders to access information, resources and specialized expertise, and provide input to the development of supporting functional strategies, and operating and business plans
  • Assist in the review and integration of functional business strategies to ensure alignment with corporate strategies and priorities.
  • Monitor external best practices in corporate strategic planning.

Support Strategic Development Initiatives:

  • Support NWMD internal capital allocation process and its integration with corporate strategic, business and investment planning.
  • Project manage and/or support a range of strategic development and planning initiatives.
  • Undertake synthesis and analysis of business intelligence to identify potential business opportunities and threats and propose strategies to capitalize on opportunities and/or mitigate threats.
  • Analyze and assess business policies and government, business trends and new business opportunities, and supporting strategies and plans for seeding and advancing growth options/opportunities, while leveraging support resources from across the corporation as required.
  • Negotiate and manage corresponding commercial arrangements with external parties in the fulfillment of the above initiatives.
  • Liaise with industry experts both inside and outside Canada to obtain a broad context for understanding various trends and developments of significance to NWMD.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to strengthen the linkages between the Waste, Hydroelectric/Thermal, Nuclear and other corporate organizations by fostering collaboration on issues of common concern.

Manage Projects and Supervise Staff:

  • Oversee and monitor projects to ensure value for money and schedule adherence.
  • Facilitate the integration of projects within NWMD Operations and Maintenance including oversight for project development and modifications
  • Manage and supervise junior staff, if applicable.
  • Lead the team that manages the business unit's strategic initiatives
  • Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet operational, regulatory and financial obligations.
  • Build a high-performance team with a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment.

EDUCATION 

  • 4 year University Degree in Finance, Business, Engineering or Economics is required;
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Project Management (PMP) designation, Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation, and/or Professional Accounting designation is considered an asset. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 10 years of experience in strategic initiatives and project oversight, commercial offerings and management and negotiating contracts
  • Indigenous relations experience is considered an asset
