We are actively recruiting for a Gas Meter Regulator Technician. This position can be based out of Clinton, Iowa.

Our Gas Meter Regulator Technicians are specialized technicians that are responsible for our regulator stations, odorizers and large volume meters that support our biggest gas customers. Techs normally work alone, but may direct a small crew as per the collective bargaining unit. This position requires travel throughout the Interstate Power and Light (IPL) territory.

We are hiring for a journey level or an apprentice in this role.

Apprenticeship Program:
The Gas Meter Regulator Technician apprenticeship is a four year paid program - where we will teach you the skills you need to know, to be successful. Some credit towards the four year program may be given based on previous work experience. This is a great career opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic and mechanical aptitude.

Job Responsibilities

  • Engage in gas measurement and pressure regulation to include installation, maintenance and operation of all gas measurement equipment, pressure regulation, over pressure protection, gas system SCADA, gas telemetering, odorization equipment, valve maintenance of associated valves, and operation of gas system propane air plants.
  • Installs, maintains, tests and calibrates:
    • All gas measurement equipment including both mechanical and electronic correction equipment.
    • Pressure regulation equipment including over pressure protection equipment, both gas system and at customer premises.
    • System SCADA, including coordination with interstate natural gas pipelines.
    • Gas telemetering equipment, both gas system and customer transportation.
    • Gas odorization equipment.
  • Maintains gas system valves associated with measurement and regulation processes.
  • Maintains, operates, tests and calibrates gas system propane air equipment.
  • Coordinates work for most efficient use of personnel and equipment.
  • Responsible for proper record keeping and makes reports as required.
  • Contacts customers or property owners regarding work to be done.
  • Provides proper training of assigned employees and general personnel, and other bargaining unit personnel engaged in gas measurement/regulation work.
  • Performs all work according to established company procedures and safety practices.
  • Performs electrical connections on the load side of an electric meter where low voltage gloves meet the safety requirements.
  • Required to use fire-retardant clothing where safety rules require.
  • Assists in non-commodity work where work is related to job duties.
  • Maintains equipment calibration and or certification as required.

Requires after-hours emergency response and overtime.

Job Qualifications

This position may be filled at an apprentice level, however many qualifications listed apply to journey level applicants.

  • Basic knowledge of gas distribution systems.
  • Class A commercial driver's license - required at the journey level, will be included in apprentice training.
  • Ability to work on a computer and enter data into multiple applications.

This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.
