As our Environmental Program Lead, you'll support our company and/or major project teams in managing environmental risk, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, corporate policies and industry best practices. You'll also oversee environmental consultants hired to help manage environmental risk and engage with internal and external stakeholders and government agencies.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist with managing corporate environmental risk through the development and implementation of procedures, processes, standards and environmental training material to achieve corporate goals and objectives
  • Provide environmental oversight and advice to projects and operations
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, environmental legislation, legal requirements, and environmental protection measures
  • Oversee environmental consultants
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, regulators, customers and contractors.

In year 1, you will:

  • Assist with managing corporate environmental risk through the development and implementation of procedures, processes, standards and environmental training material to achieve corporate goals and objectives
  • Provide environmental oversight and advice to projects and operations
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, environmental legislation, legal requirements, and environmental protection measures
  • Oversee environmental consultants
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, regulators, customers and contractors.

In year 2, you will:

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with change management of internal environmental processes
  • Assist planners and project managers with reviewing projects, providing advice, and managing consultants

What it takes:

  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of tools
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Public speaking (small meetings to larger presentations)
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time, provide advice to multiple project managers
  • Knowledge of environmental management principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of construction practices and environmental permitting in B.C.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation, regulations, bylaws (federal, provincial, and municipal) as related to the energy industry
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement in the handling of confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal influence to achieve positive working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

What you need to know:

  • For this bulletin, technical expertise in one or more of the following risk areas is preferred: Aquatic Resource Management, Terrestrial Resource Management, Vegetation Management, and/or Environmental Incidents.
  • Experience: five (5) or more years in managing environmental issues preferably in the context of the energy industry.
  • This position will be based out of Kelowna OR the Surrey office and involves some travel
