Department Summary
The Operations Compliance organization ensures that Company processes, procedures, and practices comply with policies, laws, and regulations through the execution of multiple audit functions, and that fully implemented corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans are effective and sustainable to minimize operational risk and prevent recurrence of non-conformance. The Compliance Assurance Advanced Auditor will conduct complex audit activities in support of Consumers Energy's obligations to safe and effective pipeline operations and adherence to Federal and State Regulatory Requirements and internal Company standards. The Auditor will be responsible for independently planning, executing, evaluating, and reporting audit results based on an annual Gas Compliance Risk Based Assessment Inventory and Effectiveness & Sustainability Plan. This position requires proven audit competencies and demonstration of effective collaboration efforts with all levels of Leadership. Knowledge of natural gas operations and engineering standards is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute the assessment planning process, including Program Ownership identification, research and interpretation of applicable Gas Regulatory requirements and Company standards, and preparation and presentation of assessment scope of work.
- Initiate effective cross-functional Business and Key Stakeholder engagement and collaboration throughout the assessment process.
- Evaluate and document non-conformance to Gas Code and Consumers Energy standard work requirements, including but not limited to the assessment of governance, procedural adherence and controls, document management, records accuracy, risk management, communication and reporting, and field operations. This may include the investigation and reporting of advanced and sometimes systemic problems that span across multiple disciplines.
- Utilize analytical, statistical, and problem-solving methods when evaluating adherence to requirements and ranking non-conformance severity.
- Prepare, align, and present clear, objective, and factual assessment conclusions, including non-conformance severity and overall risk considerations.
- Initiate the corrective and preventive action (CAPA) process through engagement of appropriate CAPA Specialists/Program Owners to support the next phase of the assessment cycle.
- To demonstrate the Company's commitment to safety, quality, compliance, effective performance, and long-term sustainability:
- Execute Effectiveness & Sustainability Reviews through partnering with Program Owners/Key Stakeholders to measure the effectiveness of fully implemented CAPA plans to assess if 1) the actions were completed as designed and 2) remediation addressed the root cause of the issue.
- Apply qualitative and quantitative validation methods for evaluation of actions including trend analysis, periodic check, sampling, monitoring, and benchmarking.
- Utilize defined acceptance criteria to determine level of effectiveness and assign score appropriately.
- Prepare, align, and communicate results with factual and objective evidence to support the closure of CAPA.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or in a related discipline
- 8 Years of Audit Execution Experience.
- 2-4 Years of Utility/Gas Experience.
Preferred Requirements
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) Professional Certification (Certified Quality Auditor)
- Solid understanding of Internal Controls (Preventive and Detective) to support effective risk management practices
- Knowledge and aptitude to interpret technical business processes, practices, and Code/Company requirements
- Effective negotiation and partnership building skills
