Summary

The Production Supervisor Lead is under the general direction of the O&M Manager and performs leadership duties that will ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Generation Plant.

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • The safe and reliable operation of a combustion turbine combined cycle power plant and associated air and water effluent permits.
  • Directs a union workforce in the safe operation of power plant equipment and maintenance of equipment integrity.
  • Facilitates communication between operator workgroups, including shift turnover communications.
  • Maintains Operating Procedures for the department and executes reviews and updates.
  • Provides operational troubleshooting and evolution guidance to the department.
  • Administers switching/tagging procedures.
  • Investigates and identifies equipment/system deficiencies.
  • Supervises, trains, develops, appraises and coaches union employees.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all Company policies including, but not limited to safety, working clearance, regulatory/environmental, and Code of Conduct.
  • Evaluates performance of training program and makes updates or changes as needed to maintain current performance and improve proficiency in key areas.
  • Performs Operator evaluation and administers the operator certification process.
  • Assists operations personnel in the design, creation, and presentation of training materials for the operations workforce (both Union and Exempt) in order to develop and maintain department proficiency in operation of the generating unit and associated systems.

 Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of power plant experience.
  • Technical knowledge in power plant operations gained either through a technical field of study and/or through related work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of combined cycle power plants.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including the capacity to lead major change efforts in a competitive business environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to direct company and non-company resources in both routine and non-routine or emergency operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead successful projects.
  • Skilled in knowledge transfer and employee development. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge and experience with bargaining unit workforce.
  • Knowledge of SAP work management system, and electronic tagging systems.
  • Prior operations and / or maintenance experience with combined cycle power generation and associated equipment, such as: Combustion turbines, Heat recovery steam generators, water treatment.
  • Certifications such as: Boiler Operator - Fossil, Combustion Turbine, NERC Operator, Operator Qualifications, or another Operator License. 

 Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation of electric generation plant facilities.
  • Directs work activities.
  • Recommends changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress.
  • Inspects job sites to check on work progress, observations with respect to safety of job site and work being performed, assures satisfactory completion of work through post maintenance testing and equipment / plant walk down, plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required.
  • Conducts regular safety meetings, performs incident investigation and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
  • Implements and monitors preventative maintenance programs.
  • Participates in the control of plant modifications, computer changes and off-normal equipment situations.
