Description

Summary

Supports the Legal Department by assisting lawyers with regulatory dockets, providing legal review and analysis for customer complaints and customer service issues, drafting and filing documents with appropriate agencies and conducting legal research and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist lawyers with regulatory dockets.
  • Manage Documents and Filings.
  • Prepare documents to be filed with the Oregon Public Utility Commission and other regulatory bodies.
  • Obtain proper documentation for major filings.
  • Prepare and organize trial exhibits and trial notebooks.
  • Prepare a weekly summary of filings and recent orders; and develop, test, document, and maintain procedures necessary to coordinate the regulatory filing process.
  • Respond to discovery (data requests), determining scope of document search.
  • Coordinate with PGE employees to gather documents for preparation of discovery responses or document production, and act as liaison with employees and outside counsel on case status and compliance with data requests.
  • Draft legal documents and summaries.
  • Prepare and finalize routine and special pleadings and prepare summaries of pleadings, as requested.
  • Draft and prepare sections for inclusion in substantive motions and briefs for state regulatory proceedings.
  • Provide summaries to attorneys of legal research.
  • Prepare summaries of expert testimony.
  • Tracking of regulatory dockets and docket calendar.
  • Remind lawyers of relevant events and keep parties informed of schedules and filing deadlines. Distribute internally within PGE hard copy or email notification of dockets. 
  • Assist customer service group with responses to customer issues and complaints.

Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in any field, or an associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, or equivalent experience.

Experience Required:

  • Typically three or more years in related field, particularly in contract review, document production and regulatory filings.

Candidates are expected to have or be able to obtain:

  • Working knowledge of all regulatory filing and service processes and requirements, including basic forms and orders such as standard protective orders, formal forms of motions and certificates of service.
  • Intermediate knowledge of company and Legal Department procedures and requirements
  • Working knowledge of applicable local, state and federal regulations related to public utilities.
  • Intermediate ability to prioritize work to meet court/proceeding schedules and department deadlines.
  • Intermediate skill in determining what information or products the attorney needs and devising means to achieve same.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal terminology to interpret and draft standard legal documents.
  • Working skill in using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Intermediate skill in conducting legal research and organizing and summarizing information from divergent sources, including legal and non-legal reference sources with emphasis on electronic research.

  • Ability to report to work and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather
  • Ability to consistently meet attendance standards for regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance
