The finance and accounting specialist prepares financial and business-related analyses and other work product supporting the following areas of focus: O&M expense, capital expense, revenue and sales volume, business planning, workforce, regulatory filings and discovery, general accounting and month-end close activities, and general finance and business support to internal client organizations. Provides advice and counsel to management and client organizations. Conducts special studies and analyses, develops alternatives, presents recommendations to management and influences management decisions. Researches, analyzes, develops and implements new strategies, programs, and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions.
Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret actual results, prepare short-term forecasts, and report to management concerning the following: O&M expense incurred at corporate administrative departments; retail revenue, sales volume and product pricing; capital project expense; and workforce levels.
Support preparation of long-term department-level O&M expense and workforce projections in support of the business planning process. Support business unit consolidation and reporting efforts associated with the long-term business planning process.
Provide financial, analytical and general business support to internal client organizations.
Support general accounting and month-end close activities through the preparation and processing of journal entries and accruals, preparation of interdepartmental cost allocations, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.
Provide information to support the development of regulatory filings submitted to state and federal regulatory oversight agencies.
Work independently with department managers to develop financial targets and assist client organizations in delivering against established targets.
Develop and maintain efficient, reliable and accurate business reporting tools.
Direct special projects and studies as assigned.

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of five years experience in accounting or a related field.
A strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience in financial statement preparation and analysis.
Proficient with the use of computer systems including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation applications to gather, analyze, and model information.
Project management and leadership skills, including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature.
Ability to work with staff at all levels of an organization; ability influence actions and negotiate outcomes.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local government laws and regulations.
Preferences
Advanced degree and/or CPA designation.
Working knowledge of FERC reporting standards and requirements.
Experience with SAP and/or Oracle in an accounting or financial reporting role.
General understanding of utility economics and utility commission rules and regulations.
An inherent desire to learn and to find new ways to deliver value to the company and its customers
