Job Description

  • Lead an engineering team responsible for design basis management and technical support of the integrated emissions controls and chemical systems, processes and equipment on the AEP Generating Fleet.
  • Provide direct oversight of engineering teams responsible for providing strategic technical, operational and maintenance expertise on emissions control systems, cycle chemistry, water and waste treatment processes and equipment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance for federal and state regulatory compliance and permitting activities, engineering and design support for capital projects, and strategic planning support as it pertains to the aforementioned equipment and systems across AEP's seven operating companies and 11 state service territory.
  • Seek and develop optimal long range solutions to engineering and technical problems and organize and engage subject matter expertise to resolve emergent issues for Engineering Services' customers.
  • Foster an innovative mindset to challenge the team to seek innovative solutions to bring value.

  • Lead and provide direct oversight of efforts to establish and maintain risk-balanced generation design basis and technical design criteria and documentation impacting the emissions control systems (flue gas desulfurization, particulate control systems, dry sorbent injection systems, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, etc.) cycle chemistry, water and waste treatment equipment, processes and infrastructure on the AEP generating fleet.
  • Ensure that engineering and technical support activities uphold compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements including code requirements and standards, where applicable.
  • Manage and support the fleet program for SCR catalyst replacement. Collaborate with internal stakeholders in Engineering Services, as well as outside of Engineering (Fossil & Hydro, Environmental, Commercial Operations, Projects Controls & Construction, Regulatory, etc.) to establish strategic and tactical technical solutions for operations, maintenance, performance optimization, regulatory compliance, permitting, and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and utility industry technical groups to maintain awareness of key trends and issues impacting infrastructure, systems and equipment associated with AEP's power generating fleet.
  • Manage the Integrated Emissions Controls & Chemical Engineering O&M and Capital budgets to meet annual targets and departmental objectives.
  • Provide and develop subject matter expertise for equipment, systems, and processes to ensure safe operation, performance and longevity of equipment.
  • Support Engineering Services' multi-year strategic business plan and ongoing business sustainability objectives and Continuous Improvement efforts Support development and ongoing maintenance of design criteria documentation, standards, circular letters, etc. and utilize AEP's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure proper governance and procedure adherence for upholding high quality standards.
  • Support development of capital improvement estimates, requisitions, as well as for procurement of services, materials and equipment impacting mechanical/civil engineering.

Minimum Requirements

EducationBachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution

ExperienceMinimum 10 years engineering/technical experience related to emissions controls systems, mechanical and/or chemical process systems and infrastructure.

Experience should include a minimum of four (4) years demonstrated leadership role as a project or lead engineer and ability to effectively direct, supervise and coordinate the work of other personnel.

Professional Engineer's License required (waived upon review and approval of Generation Executive Leadership)
