The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) is a leading international provider of clean energy products and services. Our facility in Chanute, KS is currently seeking an entry level, motivated Technical Designer/Drafter to join our team of professionals who work together to deliver top quality products and services to our customers around the world.
Duties include:
- Utilize the latest 2D and 3D CAD technology (such as AutoCAD, PDMS, SolidWorks and/or SmartPlant) to prepare basic arrangement drawings, 3D models and basic assembly/details drawings/models for basic component parts.
- Determine appropriate views, sections and orientation on drawings to be made for purpose of showing necessary information in the most effective manner.
- Prepare bill of materials of component parts for arrangement drawings and assembly/detail drawings.
- Apply information from customer specifications and contract information sheets, company standards & procedures as directed.
- Review and apply information contained on vendor documents as needed per assignment.
- Make routine calculations, as needed.
- Verify drawing accuracy concerning items such as dimensions, fits, and tolerances.
- As required, travel domestically to a job site with a Senior Technical Designer to perform an equipment walk-down to take field measurements and establish site specific requirements. Once experience and product knowledge is gained, travel internationally may be required.
The Technical Designer position is located within our Design Engineering organization, and will require working closely with engineers, proposal managers, project managers, project engineers, and shop personnel. Scope of work includes utility boiler products as well as related auxiliary equipment such as flues and ducts, piping, fans, tanks, steel, etc.
Qualifications
- Completion of 2 year associate degree in drafting/design or equivalent experience in Industrial/Utility design/detailing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD packages is preferred.
- Successful candidates will demonstrate attention to detail and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills.
- Internship opportunities available for students currently enrolled in Drafting/Design Associate degree program.
