The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province's power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province's electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario's electricity needs - now and into the future.

The Opportunity

As the Senior NERC CIP Compliance Specialist you will be taking a lead role to ensure the IESO's compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation's (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. You will be responsible for managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company's NERC CIP Compliance program.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and maintain the company's NERC CIP Program in accordance with NERC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, recommend controls, and monitor the effectiveness of the NERC CIP program
  • Ensure compliance with NERC CIP standards through regular audits and assessments
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on NERC CIP standards and best practices
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for NERC CIP compliance.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units and departments in meeting NERC CIP compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote NERC CIP compliance and address any non-compliance issues.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, new NERC CIP standards, and changes to existing standards.
  • Represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies and industry associations related to NERC CIP compliance.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What you'll need to succeed

Education:

A University degree in Business, Engineering, Business Management, Math, Science or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience in cyber security or information technology.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in NERC CIP compliance, cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of NERC CIP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, developing and implementing security controls, and conducting audits.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think critically and provide creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills.
  • Respectful assertiveness, to ensure compliance requirements are met by others, while considering the spirit and letter of standards.
  • Demonstrated consensus-building and team-building skills.
  • Ability to be diplomatic and persuasive.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust and confidence.
  • Exceptional organization and planning skills.
  • Independent decision-making expertise.
  • Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Compliance and/or Business Area Experience required.
