Description

The Manager, Integrated Operations Technical Training, is responsible for managing the technical training team which supports grid system operators and market trading operators. The technical training team provides both comprehensive training program management and custom learning content to the company's operations departments. The Manager leads the training team's implementation of best-in-class training programs with company-specific learning content and presides over the training team budget. The Manager collaborates with the transmission, distribution, and power operations teams to ensure training program alignment for instructor-led, computer-based, and simulation learning environments. 

Provides strategic leadership and management to the Integrated Operations Technical Training Team. Manages a team of training program managers and training content developers. Ensures the technical training programs fully comply with NERC and FERC standards while maintaining PGE's technology and security standards. Is accountable for the Integrated Operations Technical Training team's program execution to obtain corporate learning and development objectives. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Supports and guides the direction of Integrated Operations Technical Training Program through interaction with partner organizations including Grid and Power Operations, keeping current with industry trends. Establishes and maintains relationships with other training professionals both internal to PGE and external. Directs the Operations Technical Training strategy created with the Grid and Power Operations leadership to ensure the company's reliable, green-energy future at the best price for PGE customers. Leads training programs for transmission, distribution and real time power operators and oversees training lifecycle management plans for the operations learning and development programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of professionals responsible for developing and delivering technical training. Oversees needs assessment, planning and strategy of training function. Collaborates on prioritization of Grid & Power Operations initiatives. Provides guidance to the team, ensuring that objectives are met, and all relevant standards/procedures are followed. Ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved. Establishes direction and metrics for the team. Monitors performance, motivates employees and provides coaching and feedback. Oversees process improvement.

  • Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.

  • Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team, partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.

  • Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.

Qualifications

  • Typically, a bachelor's degree in business, psychology, sociology, human resources or other related field or equivalent experience.

  • Typically, eight or more years in utility operations, technical training or human resources with three or more years of management.
