Job Summary
A Garage Mechanic assists with repairing and maintaining company vehicles by performing preventive maintenance inspection and servicing, non-critical welding, tire repairs, and vehicle cleaning.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform type "A", "B", and Aerial preventive maintenance inspection and servicing:
- Lubricate chassis, change engine oil and filters, check all fluid levels, inspect brake assemblies, tune engines, service cooling systems, service automatic transmissions
- Perform operational, condition, and safety inspection of vehicle
- Perform Aerial inspections and repairs in compliance with ANSI, OSHA, and DOT requirements
- Diagnose, service, adjust, repair, replace, rebuild, and overhaul various vehicle parts and components
- Perform required machining operations:
- Resurface brake drums and rotors, hone brake cylinders, bore cylinders, grind valves
- Perform oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and hard facing welding in non-critical areas
- Change and repair tires
- Clean and wash vehicles and work equipment
- Provide relief for other positions as required and work without assistance in job areas where sufficient knowledge and training are present:
- Attend company-sponsored classes
- Obtain necessary training to learn duties of positions with progression
Minimum Experience Required
- Technical degree in automotive mechanics or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of experience repairing and servicing automobiles and trucks, and with hydraulic repair, electrical repair, and welding in an automotive garage.
- 1+ years of computer experience
- Valid Drivers License
- Must be able to obtain a CDL with a valid medical certification within six months of hire.
