Job Summary

Dominion Energy is currently seeking experienced engineering staff for the Electrical and I&C Systems department in Site Engineering at the Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT.  There are two positions available.  Positions will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

The candidate will fill an Engineering role as Engineering Technical Specialist II or III in the Electrical and I&C System Engineering Group.  The primary area of focus will be electrical systems engineering in support of operating Millstone Units 2 & 3.  

Specific duties include: Monitoring and trending of electrical system health, Preparation of engineering technical evaluations, Development of maintenance strategies and corrective action plans, and  supporting development of design change documentation.   The candidate will work in a broad range of Electrical Power and I&C issues both on the component and system level.  Candidates will be expected to have familiarity with nuclear power plant design, including the Electrical Distribution System and or the Instrumentation and Control Systems at the station.   A Training program will be provided for the new candidate to obtain a required basic level of knowledge for understanding, plant design basis, operations, maintenances as well as work planning structure, including normal and emergency operating procedures. Engineering technical specialist II candidates will be expected to lead small, cross-functional groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability.  They are expected to be able to work with minimal supervisor direction. Engineering technical specialist III candidates will be expected to lead larger, multi-discipline groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability.  They are expected to be able to work independently on assigned tasks.  This specific position may lead special efforts to improve and sustain equipment reliability.  

The Engineering Technical Specialist provides technical support, direction and advice in analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment and programs.  May perform same work as titled Engineers, but possesses an engineering degree which is not ABET accredited. May provide technical project management including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking and oversight of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineering Technical Specialist II:  2-3+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.

Engineering Technical Specialist III:  5+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.

Knowledge of engineering principals, theories and practices.  Ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. Ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
Effective oral, written and graphical communication skills including technical writing; ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.  Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements and  experiments.  Ability to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes. Ability to function effectively independently and as a member on a technical team. Organization and project management skills.
Proficient personal computer skills including knowledge of applicable software programs.

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

- 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

- 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or

- 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or

- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree

Education Requirements

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
  • 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
