Job summary  

The Financial Analyst III provides analysis and assistance in financial planning and rate analysis. This individual supports financial planning project efforts and processes including, but not limited to the strategic financial plan, financial modeling, tariffs including changes and cost of service.  An advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point and ability to create complex financial models, documents, reports, graphs, and presentations is necessary for this position.

Platte River is seeking an experienced analyst skilled in developing complex financial projections, ideally with a background in utility rates. Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented critical thinker and problem-solver, takes a proactive approach to work assignments and works well both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams. 

This position reports to Platte River’s headquarters located in Fort Collins and is eligible for hybrid work within a commutable distance.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates long-term financial planning and cost of service models as well as develops and implements initiatives that improve modeling effectiveness
  • Conducts rate impact analysis, creates financial models, builds and analyzes forecasting scenarios and delivers financial projections
  • Provides forecasting scenarios to support business decisions
  • Collects, interprets, analyzes and summarizes data and trends; examines assumptions; studies resource modeling cases; assists in rate design and policy development, and identifies and implements improvements to financial modeling
  • Prepares, maintains, updates, delivers and presents information through reporting, presentation, graphical, in-person and virtual meetings; authors and prepares written analysis, including summaries and findings
  • Serves as a subject matter specialist in the structure and application of tariffs and charges, their components and implications for billing customers
  • Monitors, reviews, and evaluates service rates and charges for various utilities (benchmarking); conducts comparative analysis; analyzes proposed rate change impacts on owner community customers and recommends prospective courses of action
  • Supports the development, implementation, verification of the strategic financial plan
  • Interfaces with internal partners such as generation and transmission, transition and integration and accounting when gathering financial information for budgets and forecasts
  • Creates and maintains written procedures to aide in monitoring internal control and risk mitigation

Other functions

  • Compiles data and assists in drafting and editing financial planning documents
  • Makes recommendations for action and modifications regarding financial procedures, plans, and controls
  • Serves as a backup for credit and risk management activities
  • Performs additional financial analysis as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate technical and complex information effectively
  • Excellent financial analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Working knowledge of traditional risk management standards and processes, trends and best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point and ability to create complex financial models, documents, reports, graphs, and presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, exhibit a positive attitude and collaborate with others to provide high level of customer service
  • Ability to work productively and act independently, demonstrating high levels of initiative and attention to detail in problem-solving efforts
  • Ability to perform under minimal supervision and handle complex issues and problems
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter
  • Skilled in ensuring the accuracy of information, timeliness of system updates and ability to bring problems forward for resolution
Requirements

Qualifications
Education and licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, finance, accounting, economics or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy

Required work experience

  • Four years of business finance or closely related experience
  • Advanced proficiency and experience with creating complex financial models, documents, reports, graphs, and presentations

Preferred work experience and education

  • Utility rate experience
  • Experience learning new and adaptive technologies and accessing external professional services used in financial analysis and modeling

Physical demands

  • Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work
  • Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects
  • Walking or standing as needed and minimal

Hazards

  • Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident

Work environment

  • Exposure to routine office noise and equipment
Salary & Benefits

Bi-weekly salary range for position:$3,536.42- $4,862.88 (placement DOQ)
(range if annualized: $91,947 - $126,435)
