Description
We are looking for:  Lab Technical Analyst (Associate Lab Analyst)

The Lab Technical Analyst performs complex, analytical technical work. Contributes to technical projects or programs, responsible for not only the technical aspects of the projects but also quoting, customer interface, and logistical planning. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and international codes related to the testing and analysis being performed. Performs independent evaluations of new examination methods and technologies and works with internal and external stakeholders for process validation and approval. Uses technical knowledge, experience, and judgment to make decisions outside the scope of standard acceptance criteria.

The Associate Lab Analyst position is with the Regulatory Compliance Testing Section of Laboratory Services, which operates within the Project Management & Laboratory Services area of the Renewables Development & Enterprise Project Management/Transformation & Engineering organization.  Laboratory Services is an organization of engineering and technical professional "Subject Matter Experts" providing internal consulting services in support of the electric generation and natural gas compression fleets at Consumers Energy and CMS Energy.

This position involves working at heights both inside and outside in any and all-weather conditions.  Work locations inside the electric generating plants can be hot and dirty and may require time in confined spaces. Some heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) will be required. This position will require approximately 60% travel on an annual basis to various Consumers Energy facilities around the lower peninsula of Michigan and will occasionally include working extended or non-standard shift schedules.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Certification in a broad array of technical procedures (Variable and defined by specific department)
  • Professional customer interface, requiring excellent oral and written communication skills Independent/ Self-motivated/ Sustained high productivity
  • Reliably high quality, consistent work product
  • Agility/ flexibility dependent upon varying department needs
  • Ability to maintain performance and composure during audits and technical certification testing
  • Timely reporting of examination data In-depth understanding of industry codes and requirements in order to develop examination procedures and methods
  • Problem solving around processes, equipment, and specific technical methods

 

We encourage you to apply if you have:

  • Associate degree in a technical field with two (2) or more years of previous experience performing technical analyst level work or extensive experience as a technician in a similar line of work
    • [OR]  High School Diploma with six (6) or more years of previous experience performing technical analyst level work or extensive experience as a technician in a similar line of work
  • Experience with Air Stack Testing is preferred

In this role, you will:  

  • Plan and set up long-term technical test plans including examination protocols, logistics, communication, execution of test plan, all necessary QA/QC, and report submittals.
  • Equipment and test method evaluation and validation
  • In-depth understanding of industry codes and requirements in order to develop examination procedures and methods.
  • Contributes to long-term projects and programs, maintaining responsibility for all customer facing aspects of the project.
  • Execute standard examination procedures
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
