Job Summary

Under general direction, responsible for engineering activities associated with civil/structural activities at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. Works independently with minimal guidance using knowledge of civil engineering concepts. May provide guidance and direction to other Talen Energy employees to support production of high quality, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions to technical problems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide in-depth technical expertise to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to identify/resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Uses existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.
  • Directly interface with other workgroups (i.e. Operations, Maintenance) and Station Leadership regarding plant issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.
  • Assists with developing procedures, improving design recommendations and new equipment purchase recommendations.
  • Leading multi-discipline teams as the Lead Responsible Engineer for plant design changes.
  • Preparation and review of design change packages and design calculations in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Providing support for outages, emergent issues and generation challenges which may require shift work/off hours.
  • Participation in the Emergency Response Organization, in which the successful candidate will be assigned a specific duty.
  • Performing other assigned duties as determined by the Civil/Structural Design Engineering Branch Manager.
  • Ability to inspect structures, systems, and components in the industrial areas of nuclear power plant.

Requirements

Engineer

  • BS Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Individual must meet nuclear requirements for Unescorted Plant Access.

Support Engineer

  • All requirements listed for Engineer
  • Minimum of two years related civil or structural engineering experience in nuclear or relevant industry.
     

Senior Engineer

  • All requirements listed Engineer and Support Engineer
  • Minimum of five years related civil or structural engineering experience in nuclear or relevant industry.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of AISC & ACI design codes, NRC requirements for safety-related structures
  • Working knowledge of Seismic/Dynamic Qualification/Program, Heavy Load Program, Tornado generated Missile Impact considerations, rigging evaluations and temporary shielding evaluations.
  • Previous commercial nuclear experience
  • Familiar with civil/structural design requirements for Nuclear Power plants
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania, or a Licensed Professional Engineer in another state with the ability to obtain Pennsylvania Licensing within a year of hire.
