JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a results driven, analytical leader to join our team in the role of Security Investigator in our Pickering location.

Reporting to the Senior Manager in the Security and Emergency services group, the Security Investigator is mainly responsible for conducting investigations for OPG and working with business units on investigations, gathering intelligence and follow up communication on updates and results with the ultimate objective of maximum prevention of losses to OPG, adherence to OPG's Code of Business Conduct, and assurance that the security of facilities meets established standards.

This role is also accountable for corporate security strategies, policies, objectives and standards, investigations, assessment of facilities, security awareness, security skills development, security equipment, and systems and specialized security services.

The Security Investigator also provides expert advice, guidance, direction and assistance to partners, customers and the security function relative to the Security of Corporate Resources, the interpretations of laws, acts, statutes, etc., and the procedures and practices related to law enforcement and prosecution.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide security incident investigative service to all units in the Corporation as required or requested in connection with violations of OPG's Code of Business Conduct, and offenses under the Criminal Code and Federal and Provincial legislation. Work with various external government and law enforcement agencies to obtain their cooperation and assistance in such issues.
  • Provide security awareness and education programs that encourage all employees in the Corporation to share responsibility for security. Work with partners and customers to develop security awareness and education programs to suit particular group needs.
  • In conjunction with field security staff, provide educational programs to make the general public aware of the need for security measures concerning OPG property and equipment, and to gain the public's support and cooperation in such measures.
  • Design, develop, produce and deliver security training programs, lectures and courses, for security function employees, and provide expert advice and guidance in training techniques for the effective delivery of training.
  • Assist line management, partners, customers and field security units by providing expert advice, guidance and information on physical security matters including specific security systems and equipment.  Develop new security systems, as necessary, for applications unique to power industry.  Arrange as necessary to test physical security equipment and systems in cooperation with other units across the Corporation possessing the necessary technical expertise.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 4 year university degree or 2 year college diploma in a related field (an asset)
  • Industry related training courses

 QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 6 years full time investigations experience (Law enforcement and/or corporate is preferred);
  • Experience with evidence collection and reporting;
  • Experience in presentation of evidence and testimony;
  • Strong investigation and interviewing skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of IT applications, systems and security controls as well as Social Media platforms;
  • Networking abilities;
  • Capable of obtaining federal government secret level security clearance;
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several investigations simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence, network and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking and creative problem solving.
