Description
Job Summary: 
The Real-Time Operations Dispatcher role will work inside the Buffalo Network Operations Center (NOC) and is responsible for dispatching notifications for demand response curtailment events, monitoring and operating distributed generation, monitoring electric grid, and providing event forecasting and analytics reporting.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Real-time operation of NRG's distributed generation sites, including dispatching resources based upon contract commitments, economic conditions, and operational constraints
  • Act in accordance with ISO, utility, co-op, customer, or NRG commitments and/or procedures
  • Coordinate generator availability, outage schedules, and unit schedules
  • Communicate all necessary information to appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate operational issues and implement improvements to existing systems and procedures
  • Understand the responsibility of providing NRG's distributed customers reliability and resiliency
  • Monitoring of real-time customer performance data during energy curtailments
  • Handle inbound calls
  • Communicate any event monitoring systems errors to IT support, participate in pre-production systems testing, and ensure that system updates do not create an adverse effect on business operations
  • Build and analyze event forecasting and analytics reports
  • Review communications templates for accuracy
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Working Conditions:
The Real-Time Operations Dispatcher role will require working outside of normal business hours and will require a rotating shift on a 24-hour operational schedule (However, during the initial training phase, which may last up to 2 months, the hours will be 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.)

Minimum Requirements:

  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be available to fulfill storm/event duty requirements, which may include reporting to work during winter storms or other possible catastrophic events and working extended shifts as necessary until storm or event conditions reside
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience or equivalent military experience.
  • Previous Energy industry experience, but not required
  • NERC or PJM certification is a plus (candidate must complete certification within 12 months of hire)
  • Prior experience working in one or more of the following markets (but not required):
    • CAISO
    • ERCOT
    • MISO
    • PJM
    • NYISO
    • IESO
    • ISONE

  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work without supervision while carrying out duties
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks or assignments at the same time
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skill
  • Organized, task-oriented, and strong attention to detail
  • Competence in mathematics and technical concepts
