Become an Analytics Modelling and Forecasting Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow.  In this job, you'll reside in the Demand and DER Forecasting Group within SCE's Strategy & Regulatory Affairs organization.  You will be part of the team who helps build integrated long-term energy and peak demand forecast that is reflective of California's decarbonization policies to support company-wide strategic, resource, procurement, financial, and grid planning purposes.  As an Analytics Modelling and Forecasting Advisor, you will act as a consultant to corporate officers, department and division management, and organizations across the company in the areas related to customer distributed generation resources (DERs) for both bulk system and local distribution planning purposes.  You will be primarily responsible for researching and developing analysis and forecasts for future building electrification load growth and customer demand response load impact over the next 10 to 30 years.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Develops, tests, maintains, and expands quantitative forecasting, modeling, and analysis tools to predict customers' choices for adopting different types of technologies including building electrification (e.g. electric water heaters) and demand responses.  In addition, analyzes and models the hourly load profiles for each technology to assess the associated load impact on electric grid at both bulk system and distribution levels.
  • Directs or performs analytical tasks associated with a critical analytical project or a number of small projects with many complex features.  Researches and develops new methods for various analytical projects which impact long-term customer demand and DER adoption forecast.
  • Works with a small team of subject matter experts to develop granular or circuit level forecasts for different types of distributed energy resources (e.g. load modifying demand responses) in order to support SCE's distribution system planning analysis.
  • May serve as an area expert and provide analytical support to various regulatory proceedings (e.g. Integrated Energy Policy Report, Integrated Resource Planning, Distribution Resource Planning, and Annual Load Impact Protocol etc.) including preparing draft testimony/workpapers and testifying in the special technical areas.  May also serve as a strong advocate to collaborate with state regulatory entities and support the development of long-term forecast assumptions and methodologies for long-term planning purposes.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of various sources of data and resources available to access information in the special technical area.  Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of findings and recommendations.
  • Works with large cross functional teams to support various company initiatives.  Interacts regularly with all levels of management as well as a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.  Responsible for creating presentations and making recommendations to management.  Prepares various reports and data requests on regular and ad hoc basis.
  • Collaborates with IT personnel, consultants and vendors in developing analytical tools and analysis for supporting long-term planning and procurement activities.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, or other related technical disciplines.
  • Seven or more years of experience in field of analysis.
  • Four years of quantitative analysis and/or modeling experience.

The preferred 

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or other related technical disciplines.
  • Experience with regulatory policies, analysis, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments.
  • Experience about fuel switching technologies, building decarbonization initiatives, programs, and/or codes development in CA or across the nation.
  • Experience about demand-side management programs and grid impact including load-modifying demand response programs.
  • Experience in data processing tools and techniques, geospatial analysis, dashboards, and data visualization.
  • Programming skills in R, Python, or SAS.
  • Effective communications skills.  Ability to explain complex technical solutions to a nontechnical audience.
  • Ability to make effective decisions that meet business needs while minimizing risk and operating within company policies and all applicable regulations.
  • Ability to accurately analyze information, integrate people, processes, systems, and technologies, and make technical recommendations regarding project scope, impact, and implementation.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, influence, and result-oriented skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a high demand environment as a solid team player.
