Alliant Energy is currently seeking a Wind Turbine Technician, Journey Level - to work at our Whispering Willow Wind Farm near Iowa Falls, IA. In this critical role you will be responsible for the operation and performance of over 82 GE wind turbines with a generating capacity of 200MW.
This position performs a variety of work connected with the operations, maintenance inspections and testing
of wind turbine sites. This includes varied electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and instrument and control activities and other duties necessary to maintain the generation facility to which they are assigned.
Job Responsibilities
Performs wind farm operations, inspections and maintenance as may be assigned such as:
- Performs electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, instrument and control and PLC troubleshooting, maintaining, calibrating, repairing, cleaning, inspecting and constructing of equipment and systems for the generation facility.
- Maintains performance monitoring and control equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLC's). Monitors wind turbine performance. Keeps testing records as assigned.
- Maintains warehouse, orders supplies as needed. Performs regular inspections of electrical system.
- Participates during overhauls of all related plant equipment. Performs routine tests.
- Performs routine predictive maintenance activities including, thermography, vibration analysis,oil and cooling water sampling.
- Operates and/or obtains information from various mechanical and electrical devices used to support specific equipment diagnostics or work activities; gathers, interprets and logs data.
- Is proficient in the use of machine tools and various hand powered tools as job needs dictate. Operates mobile and heavy equipment to perform maintenance tasks.
- Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.
- Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
- Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.
- Performs other duties that are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor, including extreme heat and cold; exposure to dirt, weather, grease, electricity, moisture, dust, and noise; extended periods of sitting or standing may be required. Exposure to normal workplace hazards where normal safety precautions are required. Working at extreme heights is required. Work in confined spaces with diverse environmental conditions is required
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Five years of experience troubleshooting and maintenance on wind turbines. GE 2.x platform preferred.
- Associate's Degree from Wind turbine technical college preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must have residence within 35 minutes of the Emery Generating Facility near Mason City, IA.
