This new position will support, advise and enhance the Legal Department and its various sub-groups. The role will report to a senior member of the Legal team and will be charged with maintaining and improving the Department's internal systems and tools, and overseeing the Department's systems, spend, budget and vendor relationships to drive efficiency and strategic priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee department budgeting and spend, working with vendors on the department's various legal fee arrangements and protocols
- Manage and develop departmental dashboards and metrics, including KPIs on performance, workload, workflows, contract volume and budget performance
- Implement workflow and system solutions for manual processes
- Assist in the development of and training on the contract lifecycle management system
- Develop expertise in the various software and systems (such as e-billing, third party board portal system, subsidiary management, DocuSign, contract management and docketing tools, SharePoint) used by the Legal Department and assist in training on same for departmental members and internal business clients
- Provide insights and analyses into ongoing spend management efforts
- Provide project management leadership and assistance
- Perform other special assignments, strategic projects or duties, as needed
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in the area of in-house legal operations and project management
- Strong experience in developing, implementing and using legal department technology solutions (such as e-billing and matter management, Board of Directors portals, DocuSign e-signature, contract management tools, IP docketing tools, Power BI and SharePoint)
- Comfortable working with technology and systems
- Proficient in data analysis and Excel modeling
- Proficient using Power BI, SharePoint and other systems
- Expert in using PowerPoint
- Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized with a proven ability to contribute in a fast-paced, changing work environment while working efficiently and at times, autonomously
- Strong work ethic and sense of professionalism and discretion, demonstrating accountability, integrity, good judgment and respect for confidentiality
- Able to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive, "can do" attitude to the workplace and works collaboratively with other members of the legal team and with internal business partners
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills required
- Prior public company experience preferred
- Able to create reporting processes and leverage systems and cross-functional teams to expedite processes
- Experience working with and managing outside counsel
