Summary Statement:

Under supervision from the Engineering Group Manager/General Manager, the Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer is responsible for leading electrical hardware design activities for assigned product development projects. In this role, the Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer provides day to day technical project direction to Junior Engineers, MCAD & ECAD Designers, and Engineering Technicians. The Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer also owns responsibility for definition and execution oversight of product Design Verification, Manufacturing, and Design Qualification testing methodologies associated with assigned designs. It also highly likely that the Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer will be assigned overall project leadership of the product development.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • MUST HAVE the ability to specify and design: electrical components, subassemblies and assemblies used in the manufacture of electronic products. Expertise in: more than one or all circuit design technologies (analog, embedded digital, power, RF, high voltage), PCB design specification, PCB layout, PCB fabrication, hardware & software integration/troubleshooting, design for electrical safety, manufacturing test development, and qualification testing of electronic products.
  • Lead cross-functional project development teams in the specification, conceptualization, design and integration of components, custom fabricated parts and subassemblies realizing electronic products to quality, cost and time requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles to research, evaluate, specify, design, install, operate, and maintain required manufacturing assembly equipment, systems and processes to ensure meeting product requirements.
  • Lead the specification and/or design of test control apparatus and testing procedures for supporting product testing: Design Verification, Manufacturing and Agency Approval.
  • Work closely with manufacturing partners to review new board designs for manufacturability for all product designs. Coordinating with Purchasing and/or Manufacturing in the review/evaluation of possible new manufacturing partners.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles, process engineering techniques, and LEAN principles to design administrative function.
  • Assist Engineering Management with Junior Engineer, ECAD, MCAD and Engineering Technician personnel staffing and employee evaluations/decisions.
  • Investigate product field failures and manufacturing yield and/or quality issues, determining root cause and probable solutions to remedy identified causes.
  • Write and manage Engineering Changes through the Megger VF ECN & Deviation processes.
  • Develop (participate & lead) process improvements to enhance product documentation, ECAD, and project management efficiency.
  • Assist in Documentation Control ISO audits and implement audit recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skill Sets and Competencies:

  • Bachelors Degree, BSEE or BSCE. Advanced degree seen as differentiator.
  • 15+ years performing as Electrical Engineer with a designer & manufacturer of electronic products.
  • Expert knowledge of ECAD practices and board design package creation.
  • Expert level user of OrCad & PADs, designing schematics and PCBs.
    • alternative ECAD tools may be acceptable
  • Expertise with Product Structure creation and control via Engineering Change processes.
  • Working knowledge of MCAD practices and part & assembly design package creation.
  • Demonstrated Experience Leading small work teams (Jr. Engineers, ECAD, MCAD & Technicians).
  • Expertise managing products through Agency Qualifications: EMC/EMI, Safety and CE.
  • Demonstrated Experience working with ERP Systems: SAP experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office
