Role and Scope of Position:

This position will support the Solar III Project Team in the planning and development of proposed solar power sites for Department of Public Utilities review and approval. When sites are approved this position will also support the implementation of the approved solar facilities.

To develop these proposed solar power sites, this position will lead and shall be responsible for coordinating the contributions of several Eversource departments and managing external contractors. The coordination of Eversource departments will include Distribution Engineering, Environmental Affairs, Real Estate, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Solar O&M, Procurement, and others. The coordination of external contractors will include confirmation of site solar feasibility (including ground mount and canopy style solar), capital and operation and maintenance cost estimating and creation of an engineer, procure and construction (EPC) schedule.

Additionally, this position will work with Community Relations to develop a communication plan to include Environmental Justice (EJ) communities and those communities with Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Plans. These EJ and MVP communities will be a priority for solar and energy storage facilities. May represent Eversource as the expert witness for regulatory evidentiary proceedings.

This position uses formal processes and tools to manage project resources to ensure on-time completion in accordance with approved specifications, schedules, and budget. Apprise management of project status, and recommends modifications to resources, schedule, and budget as necessary.

Essential Functions: 

  • Projects are multi-discipline in nature, involving multiple stakeholders and have moderate financial/regulatory risk exposure, thus requiring comprehensive management reporting communications. 
  • Takes necessary action to see that the projects are completed efficiently, on time and within the established budget.
  • Works closely with management personnel in Eversource Customer Operations, Engineering and Communications; will also work closely with appropriate members of the Eversource Legal, Regulatory, Procurement, Environmental, Real Estate and Finance organizations.
  • Integrates and manages a cross functional project team to develop appropriate project roles and responsibilities. 
  • Manages the team's development of a comprehensive project plan, schedule and change control methodology.  
  • Coordinates and develops detailed project budgets, cash flows and variance analyses.
  • Coordinates the appropriate due-diligence assessments (environmental, geotechnical, electrical, etc.) and arranges the necessary permitting/zoning approvals needed to begin construction.
  • Manages the development of a comprehensive siting and permitting needs assessment 
  • Periodic monitoring and reporting of project scope, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics.
  • Manages execution of the project plan and project change control management process.
  • Manages the development of and participates in the required siting, permit filings and other regulatory filings
  • Manages the development and evaluation of bid documents for engineering, design, construction proposals; participates in the evaluation and selection of vendors; supports contract negotiations with selected vendors.
  • Manages the development of required energization plans and operating instructions.
  • Provides clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, as necessary, for management.
  • Supports stakeholder outreach activities and participates in the development of communication plans.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering required
  • MSME, MSEE, MBA degree preferred                    
  • 10 years plus Project Management experience with large utility, multi-disciplined projects required
  •  3+ years solar development experience preferred        

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Must be able to comfortably walk on uneven/stone ground and through wooded areas.
  • Frequent travel to project locations and prospective sites
