Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Manager Operational Technology Service, the Enterprise Network Architect contributes to creating the strategic enterprise architecture for the utility, combining deep knowledge of technology infrastructure to support a seamless experience for internal and external customers.  The Enterprise Network Architect defines the principles and standards for the design of all IT/OT LAN, WAN, WLAN, Voice, Data Centre and cloud network technologies within Information Technology.  The role works closely with business leads to convert business intent into design principles and standards that are highly available, scalable, and cost-effective network solutions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads in activities related to the design, development, and refurbishment of Network Architecture
  • Research overall solutions on the market for technical requirements and business needs
  • Advises and recommends architecture strategies, processes, and methodologies
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders, technology partners, vendors, and support staff to select new solutions/technologies that meet business needs and align to the IT/OT architectural plan
  • Extensive knowledge of routing and switching including routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
  • Responsible for capacity planning/management, performance monitoring and network configuration management
  • Provides technical leadership in the adoption of new technologies and industry best practices
  • Actively works with IT Security to develop, implement, and enforce cyber security policies and procedures
  • Manages all vendors and service providers, coordinating purchasing of all service products, contract management, and metric reporting
  • Provides guidance and coaching to Service Desk and network maintenance support staff in all day-to-day IT/OT network management activities
  • Creates and implements policies, procedures, and standards across all infrastructure platforms and ensures compliance with IT/OT policies and procedures to support corporate objectives
  • Responsible for production of all metrics and reporting to senior management across all IT/OT network topologies
  • Ensures compliance with IT/OT audit functions related to network operations 
  • Responsible for all automation initiatives to streamline all processes and recovery procedures to improve service delivery and overall operational efficiency
  • Participates as a subject matter expert for all Disaster Recovery activities
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • May be required to participate in on-call rotation to provide 7x24 support for key network systems 
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

Education & Specialized Knowledge:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, engineering or a related discipline or recognized equivalent
  • TOGAF or recognized standards equivalent preferred
  • Strong background in all aspects of technology and of architecture concepts and practices.  Able to move projects forward from strategy to architecture to design and implementation
  • Industry certifications in one or more of the following areas, CCIE preferred, Routing and Switching, Data Centre
  • Experience developing ACI, SD Access and SD WAN at an enterprise level
  • Knowledge of real time operating systems (SCADA, DERM, AMI) would be an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite of desktop products, applications, and operating systems

Experience:

  • 10 years' experience in large OT/IT infrastructure organization
  • Strong infrastructure experience across vendor platforms and communication systems
  • Experience in disaster recovery implementation and execution

  • Industry awareness of technical developments in IT/OT and applies them to corporate networks as appropriate

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an organized and concise way
  • Ability to promote continuous improvement through innovation and technology
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class "G" driver's license
