Summary

Energy Innovation Analyst, Senior- Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Strategy -  Customer to Grid Solutions Product Development & Strategy Team acts as a subject matter expert (SME) on distributed energy resources (DER).

You are responsible for:

  • Developing new products, programs or processes that incorporate customer sited DERs in a frictionless manner, while supporting grid reliability.
  • Monitor and report on DER market policies, advances in technology, programs, and new opportunities.
  • Growing the APS repository of knowledge on nationwide industry trends to help inform the business.

  • Background in solar and other distributed energy resources (DERs) is needed to help support the DER customer technology strategy, improve and build new programs and services for APS customers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering, Science, Information Technology or related field
  • AND five (5) years of prior relevant experience in the technology, power and/or natural gas sectors with an understanding of regulatory, technical and business issues impacting the industry.
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, High School/GED PLUS nine (9) years directly related experience in the technology, power and/or natural gas sectors with an understanding of regulatory, technical and business issues impacting the industry including renewables, distributed energy and grid technologies.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of one or more emerging energy technologies and related business models, such as solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, energy management software platforms etc.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data of medium to high complexity with multiple correlations and variables.


Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Utility program & product development experience preferred. Strong understanding of utility knowledge, rates, regulatory policy, resource management, etc.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Creative thinking and strategic mindset.
  • Experience working with the strategy and business development teams to assess technology-driven business opportunities, and build business cases for handling of the most impactful technologies.
  • Understanding of financial concepts and ability to model business scenarios.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to research initiatives and stay current with industry trends & developments.
  • Strong presentation and writing skills and ability to convey complex/technical content in a coherent and compelling story for audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Ability to establish relationships with multiple technology teams and provide subject-matter expertise and advice relevant to specific business needs.

Major Accountabilities

1) Manage standard Energy Innovation related projects, both directly and through collaboration with other internal and external groups through effective research, data and trend analysis.

2) Research and understand relevant technology trends and emerging business models, including early stage developments.

3) Prepare regular business updates on industry trends, emerging technologies and technology-enabled business models, focusing on the potential opportunities and threats for the Company.

4) Develop analytical and technical capabilities and expertise in areas including: distributed generation, energy storage and smart grid technologies, regulatory and policy issues.

5) Work closely with other business unit teams to assess technology-driven business opportunities, and build business cases for handling of the most impactful technologies

6) Provide support and expertise in forecasting the business impacts of emerging technologies, and ensure these perspectives are factored into business case development.

7) Effectively interface and resolve project issues with departmental staff, other departments, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.

8) Maintain and foster business relationships with business units and vendors, participating in negotiations and evaluations to identify potential issues and risks.

9) Participate, as Company representative in various forums, committees and working groups dealing with various Energy Innovation technical, policy and regulatory issues.

10) Demonstrates a continuous learning mindset and knowledge of pilot and proof of concept goals and processes. Able to contribute to the construction of a POC plan and test platform.
