Description
 Reporting to the Operations Manager, Coastal Compression, this position is responsible to provide transmission system integrity and contribute to the safe and efficient execution of maintenance and operation activities at designated compression facilities and transmission meter stations.

Provide transmission system integrity and contribute to the safe and efficient execution of maintenance and operation activities at designated compression facilities and transmission meter stations. Calibrate, maintain, install, commission, operate, monitor and maintain transmission pipeline assets. Conduct major maintenance, routine inspections, install, test and commission a wide range of equipment to gas turbine equipment and centrifugal compressors; conduct specialized tests to analyze and assess inherent faults or conditions. Install, maintain and repair instrumentation, telecommunication, electrical apparatus and process equipment.

Conduct emergent, investigative and scheduled tests on compression, transmission and meter station distribution systems utilizing a variety of computers, instrumentation, electrical equipment, process equipment, cables, metering, telecommunications and protective safety equipment. Interpret and troubleshoot complex protective programmable controllers and relay schemes; determine applicable course of action to resolve. Compile and record test data. Test, maintain and repair three phase high voltage transformers and switch gear.

Provide support with technical issues for station and new equipment upgrades. Provide assistance with capital projects and ensure accurate design and commissioning. Interpret electrical drawings, schematics and electric instruments. Prepare costs estimates, basic designs, job planning and related reports and documentation including daily activity logs. Maintain current knowledge of technologies in compression field.

Attend to alarms and implement shut down procedures into turbine engine control system; resolves problems in a timely manner to limit downtown and maintain transmission integrity and safety. Collaborate with operations, engineering, gas control staff, equipment suppliers, emergency response personnel and others; provide technical expertise, training and guidance.

Requirements

 
Completion of at least one of the following technical trade programs and/or designations combined with 4 to 7 years’ experience working with gas compressor, turbo machinery and PLC logic controlled equipment:

a. Technology Diploma in Instrumentation or Electronic Control or related fields from a recognized program and eligible for certification at the Technologist level by the Applied Sciences Technologies and Technicians of BC
b. BC Provincial Trades Qualification Certificate in Electrical, Instrumentation, Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic
c. Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician Certificate
Technical Competencies:
Knowledge of gas turbine and high speed centrifugal compressors, applications and their relativity to mechanical trades
Knowledge of laser alignment and vibration analyzing technology
Knowledge of gas distribution operations
Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety regulations and practices including applicable codes, standards, policies and procedures, etc.
Demonstrated ability to analyze emergency problems and work effectively under stressful conditions
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute work on time and on budget.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules
