Description
Direct and manage cross-functional team to achieve external reporting compliance requirements for SEC, GAAP, FERC, employee benefit plan and state utility commission purposes while ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act.Resolve multi-faceted, complex accounting and financial reporting issues while ensuring GAAP, SEC, FERC, tax, state ratemaking and business planning impacts are fully considered.Implement and support Company programs and policies.Responsible for establishment and adherence to department budgets and accomplishing established goals.Oversee compliance to internal controls and external regulatory requirements.Direct, manage, and allocate financial and employee resources.Select, coach, and develop employees and is responsible for management of employee salaries.

Responsibilities of this position include the following: 

  • Direct team to deliver accurate results in a timely manner for SEC (including XBRL reporting), FERC, affiliate interest, employee benefit plan and state Form 1-type reports.

  • Review all external filings with the SEC and regulatory bodies and influence drafting of those filings while applying knowledge of current business, ratemaking and operational considerations and GAAP, SEC and FERC accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Research highly complex issues and apply technical accounting and reporting standards for GAAP, SEC and FERC purposes and articulate conclusions verbally and in writing to various personnel, including executive management, parent company and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting and reporting requirements via the external reporting and technical accounting processes that include quarterly fluctuation analyses, contract reviews, review and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and completion of accounting and disclosure checklists.
  • Review quarterly fluctuation analyses of actual results for GAAP balance sheet, statement of operations and cash flows while applying knowledge of the company’s operations, tax and ratemaking impacts.
  • Resolve issues related to the company’s employee benefit plans ranging from accounting and reporting matters to income tax and funding issues.
  • Act as key contact person for external auditors and actuaries with respect to accounting and financial reporting matters.
  • Oversee total-company SOX 302 and 404 compliance and evaluate and resolve internal control issues with internal parties, parent company, internal audit and external auditors.
  • Review current reports with the SEC on Form 8-K.
  • Review SEC filings for debt offerings, including coordination with treasury, in-house and external counsel and external auditors.
  • Direct team to perform proper review and implementation of regulatory orders, as well as coordinate proper and timely responses to regulatory data requests for finance and accounting
  • Select, coach, and develop employees.
  • Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews
Requirements

Requirements for this position include the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field 

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in financial reporting or accounting.

  • A minimum of five years of direct people management experience.

  • Leadership and teamwork skills to negotiate with and influence peers and management on policy and strategic issues.

  • Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, develop and execute policy, direct and monitor resources, and recommend and oversee development or implementation of systems, programs, or processes. 

  • Excellent foundation in GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements.

  • Ability to deliver high quality results at pace, manage parallel processes, and consistently meet tight deadlines. 

  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage and motivate employees.

Preferences:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with public accounting experience.

  • Utility experience, including solid foundation in FERC Uniform System of Accounts and state ratemaking principles. 

  • Knowledge of the Company’s strategic plan, regulatory and political environment, as well as the Company’s policies, procedures and practices, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

  • Advanced Degree.
